About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Seeing new places. Meeting new people. Experiencing new cultures.

ABOUT ME

Most people say I am one of the calmest people they have met. I usually take this as a compliment =) I can be very excitable, but in general, pretty mellow. I am into outdoor activities, mostly mountain biking, but I like to rock climb, hike, run, walk my dog...

Molly is my amazing girlfriend and she will be traveling with me. Please take this into consideration when deciding on hosting her and I.

Molly: I'm low-key and rather independent. I love being outside and doing anything under the sun although not to an extreme. Take me anywhere there are mountains and I'll be content. I've also lived in Portland, OR...

PHILOSOPHY

Leave no trace...on the land or on people's defenses

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

...participate in??...life? couch surfing? I do what I can, you know?Molly: Being a newbie, my participation has been limited to asking friends and relatives who've used CS about their experiences/tips/etc. Shortly, however, I hope we become major participants in this community and of this website.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

On the Pacific Crest and Appalachian trails (US long distance trails), I've been asked back to many homes by random locals I came across. People can be very gracious if you present yourself earnestly. I stayed for a week at a stranger's house as he went to work out of town in Big Bear, California while my hiking partner healed up a twisted ankle. In Eugene, OR I lived at this other hiker's house for a month while I looked for work after the Pacific Crest Trail.

Interests

Maps. Books. Bikes. Dogs. (I'm not sure why I am using periods instead of commas) International travel is my new interest and I really hope I like it =)

Molly: Being outside and moving your body.

Music, Movies, and Books

Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, George Orwell

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Backpack 5,000 miles of the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails . I have also lived in three different deserts which has fostered in me a sense of space and the importance of water resources.

Molly: I'll never forget flying at 33,000' and being able to see the curvature of the Earth as the sun began to rise.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a bicycle mechanic of nine years now. I can teach you anything you have ever wanted to know about bikes. Light-weight backpacking goes the same too--including making your own gear.

Molly: I can show you how to make a great peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I could also teach a novice about sport climbing. I'd love to learn whatever knowledge/skills you have to offer!
