Hi there! We’re Marta and Òscar, a laid-back couple from Catalonia currently in the middle of our sabbatical adventure. Right now, we’re living in Iceland, working as seasonal housekeepers, and spending our free time exploring and enjoying this beautiful island.

After some hectic times, both at work and personally, we decided it was time to hit the road and rediscover the world—and ourselves—on this adventure. We first met at university, where our shared passion for social education brought us together. We’re all about meeting new people, sharing experiences, and learning from the world around us.

Òscar: I’m from Tossa de Mar, a charming coastal town in Girona. I’m a pretty chill guy with a good sense of humor and a love for deep conversations. I enjoy philosophizing and getting lost in a good chat, whether it’s about life, travel, or just sharing stories with new friends.

Marta: I come from a small village in Lleida, Alpicat. I’m all about staying positive and finding the silver lining in every situation. I’m also a creative soul, with a love for art and connecting with people. I enjoy bringing a bit of warmth and good vibes wherever I go.

We’re both passionate travelers, excited to dive into new cultures and make friends along the way. We can’t wait to swap stories, learn from each other, and create some unforgettable memories together.

We love exploring new places from a local’s perspective. We think that connecting with people who actually live in the areas we visit gives us a much richer and more authentic experience. Instead of just seeing the tourist spots, we want to dive into the everyday life and culture of each place.

We believe in the power of sharing—whether it’s stories, meals, or just a friendly chat. It’s through these connections that we can truly understand and appreciate a place. Meeting new friends and swapping experiences makes our travels so much more meaningful and fun. We’re excited to learn from you, share our own stories, and make some great memories together!

We’re big fans of cinema and always on the lookout for a good movie night. While we enjoy a trip to the theater, we’re particularly drawn to independent and alternative films rather than mainstream blockbusters. We love French cinema and films from the production company Acontracorriente Films—those that are exciting, have a touch of humor, and maybe even a basis in real events.

When it comes to music, our tastes are pretty diverse. We might find ourselves dancing at a lively concert one night and getting swept away by opera the next. We don’t stick to just one genre; instead, we let our moods guide us to different styles. We also enjoy listening to radio and podcasts, especially those about true crime, curious stories, or current events.

Recently, we picked up two e-readers and have rediscovered our love for reading. Our reading preferences are quite different: Marta leans towards fantasy and books on well-being and health, while Òscar enjoys political and social fiction.

For us, stepping off the hamster wheel that so many of us find ourselves trapped in is incredibly important. Over the past two years, we worked hard to secure jobs we liked, find a place we loved, and achieve socio-economic stability. But despite reaching these goals, we realized that this wasn’t enough to truly fulfill us. We came to believe that life is about more than just work and material stability; it’s also about having time for ourselves and pursuing our dreams.

So, a few months ago, we made the bold decision to leave behind our stable, well-planned life. We applied for jobs in Iceland, where we could earn some money while exploring a new country. Our goal is to save up and then travel through Southeast Asia. In a world that often equates productivity with worth, we chose to challenge that notion by living out a dream and finding true fulfillment.
