About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to serve God the best way I can each day left
ABOUT ME
I am a 65 year old mother of 5 children, a former high school English teacher for nine years and a homeschooling mother for 22 years of my five. My husband of 33 years is a retired Navy submarine Captain which is what put us in WA state. I am a strong Catholic and write a blog entitled www.thefrugalcatholic.com
PHILOSOPHY
I love making life sparkle in a frugal manner. I call it making magic which is what I think couch surfing is. It is the magic of meeting new and wonderful people for free.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love frugality (obviously my blog) and I wanted to write on couchsurfing since it is about the most frugal way to travel there is. I also like the idea that if I can't travel to all of those far flung places, those folks can come here! New people help me understand this wonderful world better.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My daughter couch surfed in Ireland and a niece has also couch surfed.
Interests
My interests are walking, downhill skiing, backpacking, and camping in our camper. I enjoy meeting new people. I also enjoy collecting such things as figurines of rabbits, cows, birds, and turtles. I do most of our shopping in thrift stores which makes the money spent more adventurous. It is fun to look at what I am wearing and think of which thrift store it came from.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love Celtic music and also country-western since that is what my 16 year old daughter likes. We also enjoy classical music of any sort.
My favorite book, of course, is the Bible. And as a family we enjoy good clean humorous movies. We also love watching DIY TV on real-estate. It is fun to see how people fix up houses in their areas.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
1. being married for 33 years
2. becoming a Catholic in 2009 after being a Protestant for 60 years
3. being a mother of 5 wonderful children
4. homeschooling my 5 children for 22 years
5. adopting our 5th child from Russia at the age of 50
6. learning about soccer and softball from my 5th child
Teach, Learn, Share
I want to learn of frugality tips from other people in other countries/cities. That gives me fodder for my blog www.thefrugalcatholic.com
I also am looking forward to sharing what he/she has been learning about his/her faith journey, especially if they are Catholic Christian. That would be a nice commonality although I know I can learn something from folks of any faith.
