About Me

Hi !
I'm Martin, I'm a 29 year old PhD and I live in Paris. I'm a sociologist and historian of technology, in particular robots and assistive technology in the XXth century.
My wish is to live a few years in Japan, where I travelled three times in 2016, 2019 and 2023.
I'm particularly interested in gastronomy (I cook a lot!), handcrafts, gardening and classical music, and above all, I like to meet new people and discuss with them while enjoying a great meal :)
Looking forward to meet you!

IMPORTANT NOTE - I can't accept requests from June 20th to September 12th as I won't be in France on these days.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I discovered Couchsurfing in 2019 and knew almost nothing about it (during my previous trips, I used to stay in hotels or B&B). I met fantastic hosts in Japan, a Brasilian guy with Japanese ancestors, a very cheerful mother and her lovely family, and a very funny guy who lived with 8 cats. We shared great moments, visits, lunchs (and drinks, of course !) and family rituals... Due to the pandemic, I had but a few opportunities to do it again except in Mexico in December 2022... but now I can't imagine travelling without meeting local people, discovering other lifestyles, world views and making friends who, in turn, may come to spend good time with me in my city (Paris).

I am able to welcome guests in my tiny flat, near Montparnasse station, but I often leave it to visit my family and friends.
Feel free to contact me with a somewhat personal message: please, NOT A COPIED/PASTED ONE (I write it in capitals as it didn't prove effective in lowercase letters).
Tell me about you, what interests you in my profile, and if the feeling is good and I'm available, it will be my pleasure to host you!

P.S. We used my ex-girlfriend profile to contact couchsurfers, that's why I don't have many reviews on my profile...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being invited in a "New Year" party in April 2019 (celebration of the new emperor Naruhito) in a very small island (Ama, one of the wonderful Oki islands), and attending an improvised concert by a (Japanese) couple of accordion... who played French popular songs, and dancing on that rythm with a woman dressed in a panda costume!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Insights into French culture, especially into typical food and drinks (I'm a wine and IPA lover). My favourite pieces of music and movies. And funny stories of course.
