About Me
About us more like.
My girlfriend is called Jing and I’m Martin, the better half if is Chinese, I am English. We met working onboard cruise ships in America and shared a passion for travel, that was almost two years ago and we’ve been travelling since.
Jing introduced me to Couchsurfing and I’m so happy for it. Every couch we’ve slept on and every person we’ve met has been such a magical experience.
We’re currently working on becoming full-time digital nomads, Jing is writing a book and I’m working on freelance writing and at least one blog.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Modern life can be so consuming. With face-to-face video calls from a few movements of fingers and limitless information on anything you can think; your portal to the world is in the palm of your hand. Yet. Despite this connectivity, we’ve never been so distant from reality. The screen consumes all time, the intoxicating nature of possibilities invade your capacity for real experiences, real memories.
We want to use the potential for connectivity as positively as possible; we want to expand our global family, have a real understanding of the culture and history of the places we visit. Online reviews are subjective, magazine articles are promotions, you can never truly know anything until you’ve been there first hand. We live in a unique timeframe where everywhere in the world is accessible, the only thing holding anybody back is themselves.
We love to travel, we love to meet new people, we want all the positive aspects of society to remain. We love to tell stories, we love to hear stories, we love to share memories with others. Couchsurfing is the epitome of all things good in the world, strangers breaking bread, trust, kindness; it bridges the gap that the digital world has created.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm very fond of all genres of music, with the exception of heavy metal; unfortunately I never understood the appeal.
Books are our lifeblood, we always find time to have a quiet sitdown.
Movies are beautiful things, we've enjoyed a wide spectrum of genres. Jing used to work on set as a director for a Chinese comedy show and has a great passion for cinematography.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Many moons ago, in a seemingly different life, I won an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas. During my university years I used to go to the local pub to play poker, this pub happened to be part of a league. After being top of the table for my pub, then coming first out of all the pubs in the regional finals, I became part of the top 100 players in the UK to make it through to the grand final in Las Vegas! Unfortunately, the coming first ended there and I ended up coming 29th. It was still one hell of a whirlwind adventure!
Teach, Learn, Share
Learning is a great passion of ours, and what would be the point in learning anything if you couldn’t help others by sharing and teaching it! We’d love to learn anything about anybody and we’re happy to help in vice versa.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Conversation, comradery, socialising; we have all lived very different lives in this world, and I’m sure we can learn a thing or two from each other.
More materially speaking: Jing is an amazing cook (and I’m an amazing washer of dishes). You can expect at least three different sharing dishes in the middle of the table to feast on. Breakfast is my jurisdiction, porridge with toppings being the usual go to. Safe to be said: no stomach will be left unsatiated during our stay.
