About Me

I am a Sagittarius who values travelling, discovering new places and meeting new people all over the world. I was born and raised in Slovakia and just after finishing my university studies I decided to travel to Australia, which at the time I though was going to be a short trip. Little did i know what was in store for me in Australia and my 'short trip' lasted 11 years. While living in Australia, I met wonderful people who became as close to me as my own family. I also got interested in alternative medicine and decided to take up the study of homeopathy which became my profession for some time. Since I dreamt about going to India ever since I was a child, after 11 years in Australia, I decided to go to India to fulfil my dream. I stayed there for 6 moths, half of that time spend studying yoga (one of my passions) and half of that time I spent travelling. On my return to Slovakia, I took up a teaching job ( I am an English teacher) and after 3 years I realised that life was too short and too precious to spend the rest of it running to the ringing of a school bell.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Few months ago I decided to leave my home country - Slovakia and travel, spend time in other countries, look for new ideas, new friendships and most of all 'new' or 'different' way of life. I quit my teaching job as I was extremely dissatisfied personally as well as professionally and I couldn't see how my dissatisfaction could be cured by doing 'the same old'. Being a well-travelled Sagittarius who always drew strength and inspiration from travelling, I decided to set on the road again and see what opportunities life would bring this time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love reading and my favourite books of all time are Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, Midnight Children by Salman Rushdie, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (yes, I love magic realism in literature) and recently I've added to my all time favourites The Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield, historical account of the battle of Thermopylae.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was travelling in India, I met a very poor fatherless family who was trying to get the oldest son to do college so he could get some education , better job and thus help the family rise from the poverty. The family borrowed money to finance his college from a local usurer. When I met the family, the family was being daily terrorised by the usurer wanting his money back. I got the daughter of the family to draw pictures of 'kolam' (traditional South Indian artwork) and took them back to Slovakia. When in Slovakia, I did a fund-raising for the family selling the kolam pictures to my friends and acquaintances. I managed to raise enough funds to pay most of the debt of the family as well as to pay for the last year of college study for the eldest son. The oldest son finished his studies and managed to get a better paid job and is now supporting his mother and sister.
