About Me

CURRENT MISSION

less consumption, more experience

ABOUT ME

I'm a student, i do a weekly classical show on CJLO, i volunteer sometimes, i love travelling. I'm broke as hell, though i'm always plotting.

PHILOSOPHY

nullius in verba (take nobody's word for it), motto of the royal society. basically, i jive to the beat of my own drum.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i've only surfed twice... once in Toronto with a really lovely lady who had a really interesting life, who i loved speaking to and spending time with.

the second time, in new york, was nothing short of a nightmare. the host turned out to have ulterior motives for hosting young females. i was even harrassed via messaging when i posted a negative reference. couchsurfing handled the situation reasonably (the moderators cooperated and made sure that the guidelines were being followed by both sides) but the guy still didn't admit what he did and exaggerated my messiness to make me look bad and change the scope of focus from his inappropriate behavior to try to level the playing field. SO BE CAREFUL LADIES. unfortunately this was much too much for me so i won't be trying any more couchsurfing for some time.

Interests

travelling
i study at university. i read a lot (largely non-fiction. also the walrus, purple mag, lapham's quarterly, and a ton of psych journals and publishings for school)
i paint a lot during the holidays (affordable gifts, heh)
i run to stay sane.

Music, Movies & Books

movies... i don't really watch. the last couple of films i saw were man on wire and black swan. i enjoyed both.

music: just about everything except country and metal. here's my last.fm if you're interested (http://www.last.fm/user/malavorona)

books:

One Amazing Thing I've Done

grew up in the middle east
travelled through much of europe in 2008
spent a week at kazantip
took a road trip down the californian coast
celebrated the new year in mexico
attended coachella 2009
took the train across canada in 2010
ran a half-marathon may 2011
earned the 4.0 GPA i've always wanted in 2012 (we'll see if i can keep it up! ahah)

i try to accomplish something at least once every six months. it's the way to go.

Teach, Learn, Share

if you have an eu rail pass and you're travelling during peak season, always remember to reserve seats on the train to your next destination upon arrival at current location. doing this will save you so many headaches.
