About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to be as good at as many things as I possibly can be.

ABOUT ME

Like most sane human beings, I like meeting compelling people, and seeing interesting things. I really enjoy good conversations. It sounds trite, but those are some of the most worthwhile things a person can gain in the short term. I don't force conversation though, so don't worry about me being a loudmouth. I know a little about a lot of different things, and I always like adding more to what I know. Also, I think the value of critical and free thinking is undervalued. People say that they appreciate these things, but it's very rare that you meet someone that actually, substantively seeks to critique the people and environment around them for what they are.

PHILOSOPHY

As someone who studies philosophy, this is extremely difficult to write. I would say never being complacent, but that's something innate within people, not something one consciously strives for. Think for yourself, and be your own person. Everyone thinks they value those things, but like critical thinking (the two go hand in hand) few people actually take the actions to prove that they care about it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't yet, but I'd like to by being a gracious and helpful surfer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm new, so we'll see.

Interests

I do a lot of work in music, writing mostly. I've interviewed and written about a lot of cool people in music and entertainment in general. I also really like reading philosophy, and literature and I'm pretty fond of the humanities in general. I really like writing too. The pursuit of new things, ideas, and places is cool too. So like new nouns if you want to be really reductive. I'm also really into golf and longboarding (real longboarding, not like casually cruising places)

Music, Movies, and Books

Authors: Tom Stoppard, Slavoj Zizek, JK Rowling, Jacques Derrida, Simon Rich, CD Payne, EE Cummings, John Steinbeck, Sharon Olds and Friedrich Nietzsche among others

Movies: The Hurt Locker, Pulp Fiction, Wes Anderson stuff, Children Of Men, Top Gun, and I've Loved You So Long

I literally listen to all types of music. I'm a music journalist and I intern at Vh1, so I can't really discriminate on anything unless it just sounds bad. I lean towards down-tempo electronica, hip-hop, and folk though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I figured out that people die, that was a pretty intense moment.

No seriously though, I ran into Kanye West's sort of life coach/advisor today on the street. That was cool. Things like that happen a lot. I've been to a lot of music festivals. Seeing Japan was very cool as well. The best things I've ever done though are just meet good, intriguing people.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know more about music and post modern philosophy than most people I've met. Unless your a graduate philosophy student or a professor, I can probably talk to you about something in the discipline you've never heard about before and definitely with music.
