About Me

Hi! I’m Mathieu.

I’m a lover of nature, mountains, and wide-open spaces. As a mountain guide, I love sharing my passion for hiking, wildlife, plants, and the ever-changing landscapes. I regularly organize mountain trips and outdoor adventures, always with a friendly, simple, and down-to-earth spirit.

Sporty at heart, I like to push myself without taking things too seriously — hiking, trail running, cycling, or orienteering, any excuse is good to move and enjoy nature. The mountains are my place of balance and freedom — where I can slow down, breathe, and feel alive.

I’m en elementary school teacher in special education, a job I love for its human richness. The children I work with teach me patience, creativity, and kindness every day. They constantly remind me that we also grow by helping others grow.

I live alone part of the time, and the other half with my 11-year-old daughter, with whom I share many simple moments — walks, cooking, laughter, and discovery. She constantly reminds me how important it is to enjoy the present moment.

I’m someone who listens deeply to the world, sensitive to what it whispers. I like to observe, feel, and give space to what goes beyond words — a bit like a quiet listener of the universe.

When I travel, I look for authenticity. I love getting off the beaten path, avoiding overly touristy places, and meeting people, their cultures, and their daily lives. It’s often the unexpected encounters and little detours that make the best memories.

I also love music and dancing — sharing a moment at a concert or just letting the rhythm carry the evening away.

I’m curious about everything: nature, local food, traditions, and good conversations around a meal or a drink. I appreciate people who are simple, open-minded, and respectful.

When I host, I like my guests to feel truly at home, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

A few words to describe me: mountains, nature, sports, authenticity, listening, sharing, music, laughter, curiosity, and respect.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like the idea of traveling differently — meeting people as they are, in their everyday lives, far from tourist circuits. For me, Couchsurfing is above all about sharing: sharing a roof, a story, a meal, a smile, or a good conversation.

I believe the best travel memories often come from unexpected encounters, from simple moments spent over a coffee or an impromptu walk.

When I host, I enjoy creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where everyone feels free to be themselves. And when I travel, I like to feel a bit at home, even if just for an evening or a shared adventure.

For me, Couchsurfing is a beautiful way to live what I love most: authenticity, curiosity, and genuine human connection.

Interests

I have many interests, often connected to nature, and human connection. The mountains hold a special place in my life — I love hiking, bivouacking, watching wildlife, following a trail up to a summit, or simply enjoying the silence.

I also enjoy trail running, cycling, and orienteering — not only for the sport itself, but for the feeling of freedom it brings.

I’m passionate about photography, especially landscapes and wildlife. I love capturing light, atmosphere, and those fleeting moments that tell a story.

Music is also part of my balance: listening, playing a little, going out to dance, or sharing the energy of a concert — anything that brings people together.

And above all, I love learning, exchanging ideas, discovering cultures, world cuisines, and local traditions. Anything that helps me grow, laugh, and feel alive interests me.
