About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I just want to fly...

ABOUT ME

August 16, 2007 I'm sitting in an Edinburgh pub with some friends. I'm drinking a beer while I'm turning 30 years old. I'm going back home next week. I've been travelling and leaving/working abroad for 14 months. In June 2006, I quit my village, I quit my job, I quit my family and my friends. I was nearly 29, I nearly never traveled and I nearly didn't speak English at all. I'm Canadian, but I was only speaking French. So, it took me a while to decide I had to see and learn many more things around the globe. A huge adventure.
I met Stephanie on a travel Website forum, which would become my travel mate and my friend. We planned a long trip in Europe. Actually, we planned just the minimum: we bought a one way flight to reach London, we applied for a working/holiday visa to work a while in the UK, and that's it! We wanted to see as many things as possible in Europe and North of Africa. Obviously, I had to learn that language too :-) But, I did it! We did it, and much more.
During the trip that changed my life (June 2006 - August 2007), Stephanie and I discovered among other things the CouchSurfing project. Wow! That helped us a way we never could have imagined. CS changed totally our trip.
To summarize, we both worked as crepe maker in Edinburgh for the 5 first months and the 2 last months out of 14. The rest of the time, we traveled in Spain-Portugal (December), in Morocco (January) and in the Near East, from Istanbul to Egypt by land (mid February-mid March). The next 2 months, we split our way. I stayed in Italy for a month (Wwoofing) and then, I traveled alone in Italy, Croatia and Germany. We met up again in Paris, with Brann, a French friend, at mid-May. We bought a car there and we drove during one month across Eastern Europe, up to Moscow. We CouchSurfed and we met other CouchSurfing members many many times. We even hosted guests in our 1 bedroom in a flat in Edinburgh. The room was quite large, though.
Back in 2012 I live with my girlfriend Myriam. I met her when I was back from that long trip. I also returned to school. So, I've been working for 3 years as Web integrator. Myriam and I own a house and sometimes, we find time to host travelers or to travel for a few weeks.

That's a part of my story, for now...

PHILOSOPHY

If you want to do something, find a way to do it. Do not wait something happens and do not wait after someone. If you feel you should change something, don't be scared. Go on. It took me a while to understand that, but I ended up doing it. :-) In my case, that was drastic. But it could be something much more simple.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can host travellers when I have time and of course I like to meet other members when I travel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Between October 2006 and August 2007, I surfed many couches around Europe, north of Africa and Near East. I hosted CouchSurfers during summer 2007 in Edinburgh. Since summer 2008, my girlfriend and I host people in Québec city.

Interests

I'm pretty open-minded, so I like to discover other cultures, other way of living. I like speaking about travel experiences too. I'm also interested in sports, especially team sports. I frequently attend a game or two during my trips. I like to be part of the rituals before, during and after the game. My favourite sports are ice hockey, football (soccer) and baseball. Of course I'm interested in other games too (almost everyone). I do practice sport. As a "good Canadian", I play ice hockey. I do also some fitness and during the summer, I roller blade on some of the most beautiful cycle paths around the globe, here in Quebec City ;-)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like rock music and I tend to see concerts during "le Festival d'été de Québec" (summer festival), here in Quebec City, on the Plains of Abraham. These years, I have seen performing Roger Waters, Aerosmith, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, The Black Keys, Rammstein, The Arcade Fire, Paul McCartney, Linkin Park, Dropkick Murphys, and some more. I also like Coldplay and U2 which I had the chance to see in Montreal.
Movies: Little miss sunshine, L'auberge espagnol / Les poupées russes, Gladiator, Invictus, Good bye Lenin, Millenium, sports movies.
Books: travel books, travelogues, history of sports, biographies and world history. Sometimes I could read fiction, but I prefer to read about things that happened for real.

A view over The Plains of Abraham during the festival. More than 100 000 people can enjoy the site at the same time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In that kind of safari vehicle, in Kruger Park, our guide managed to accelerate for escape a big elephant becoming mad at us... The elephant ran for a while toward us. Wow. I could not imagine how fast is an elephant. I really felt like people escaping a tyrex with a jeep (Jurassic Park).

Acutally, I took that picture a few seconds before the action.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share a part of my culture, a lot of travel stories and CouchSurfing experiences. I would like to learn the other cultures, way of living, what are your dreams, and more from around the globe.
