About Me

Hi, I'm Mati, I'm 23 and I'm from Lisbon. I love to travel and connect with people, get to know different ways of experiencing life :) I have many interests, from playing music, surfing, sustainability, urban design, philosophy, and trying new things always. I like to think I'm open, curious and creative so hopefully we can foster some interesting conversations and fun experiences together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing because I think it's a much better way to get to know the places you visit and connect with local people and culture. I also want to travel as sustainably as I can, so without planes, and it makes the journey longer but also much more meaningful, and I think couchsurfing will help me do this whilst making amazing people apart of my journey. Also, a few years back I did interrail and met with people through couchsurfing, and I stayed at a superhost's place in Berlin which was such a fun and enriching experience! Although I had to create a new account so our review of eachother was lost.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love many genres of music, from alternative rock (which is what I mostly play), to Bossa Nova, Soul, Hip-hop, etc. Some artists I've been listening to lately would be the Smashing Pumpkins, Tribe Called Quest an Beach House. I really like Drama movies and Sci-Fi, but I would like to be more cultured in film honestly. In terms of books, I've been trying to read some classics and I really like 'The Player' by Dostoievsky and Kallocain by Karin Boye (maybe I have a thing for slavic literature).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think I'm very lucky to have experienced many things in such a short life so far, but one thing that amazes me is that I've inspired three girls to start playing drums, and a couple of them even went on to study music academically, which is something I've never done. I think it's so cool to have awakened that passion for them and having introduced girls into an intimidating and societally masculinized instrument, just through being myself and sharing my music.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm unsure what to write here, but I'll just leave this: did you know camels can run to up to 40km per hour? Now you know.

What I Can Share with Hosts
