Overview
About Me
I’m a laid back, salt of the earth Midwesterner (at least by birth). I believe blueberry pie is a suitable breakfast food. I love to hear and tell stories. Good beer, tea, coffee, and sunshine in my eyes.
Some endorsements:
"Amazing at fetch"--My Neighbor's Dog
“Eh, he's okay"--My Mom
"Matt had a rough go of it in sixth grade. Probably would've helped if he ate less pie for breakfast."--My Childhood Best Friend
"My mom still talks to him. Like, kind of a lot."--My Ex-Girlfriend
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm hitchhiking across the USA! I'm a writer, on an assignment to hitchhike the country collecting stories from the people who don't often get to tell them. I'm also looking for my own story.
I will always believe, despite how dark things may seem, that the world is capable of being profoundly decent and kind. So far, folks have proven that to be true. I think we're all better off when we can be honest and vulnerable without judgment. I hope this project will help me live up to that ideal, and inspire at least a few others to do the same.

Music, Movies, and Books
Turnpike Troubadours, Whiskey Myers, Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, basically all soul and funk music. There’s not much I won’t vibe too.
This entire section could go on forever. Some highlights in the books category; The Master and Margharita, Moneyball, A River Runs Through it and Other Stories, Harold and the Purple Crayon (seriously, so beautiful and joyful).
Bull Durham, Tin Cup, any Kevin Costner Movie pre 2000--and a few after that. I'm a sucker for rom-coms and classic films. Westerns always get the green light too.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Does hitchiking across the country count? I feel like it counts. I also won an inflatable alien at a roller rink once. I did the lowest limbo. That feels like a two way tie I can't break.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Stories. So many stories. Before they get out to the rest of the world!
I also love to listen to others tell their stories. Whatever they may be and where they may be in life; As a friend, stranger, and kind ear, not always as a writer/journalist.
I'm also a half-way decent cook and an ace house cleaner/at home maintenance guy. I'm crafty and always willing to help hosts any way I can.
I'd consider writing a poem for/about you too. But, only on request.
