About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To travel the world, meet people, and find out what makes them interesting.
ABOUT ME
Hello Everyone! My name's Matt, and I'm from Charlotte, NC in the USA. I work as a civil engineer for an awesome design firm in Uptown. I love to travel and meet new people. I studied in Germany for a year while I was in school, which is where I first experimented with couchsurfing. It was such a good experience, I'd like to keep on participating back in America! Among my more notable adventures are spending 5 months hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, from Georgia in the south to Maine in the north, backpacking in Nepal for three weeks, and hiking the Lycian Way in southwest Turkey.
PHILOSOPHY
My outlook on life is always shifting and adapting with each new line of insight and each good conversation I have. I love learning something new from the people I talk to, and I think everyone has something to teach and something to learn from one another.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm not certain exactly how I participate yet. There are many places around the country I'd like to visit, and people I'd like to meet.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've couchsurfed with friends for years, all over the US, and all over Europe when I was living there. I've always had good experiences.
Interests
Among other things, I play classical guitar, love to ski, read, hike, camp, and explore the world. After I graduated from college, I hiked the entire Appalachian Trail along the Eastern United States. It was one of the greatest experiences in my life, and I love to tell stories from my adventures.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent one summer living and working in the wilderness of Northwest, Montana. One weekend I decided to take a hiking trip by myself. I found an old grass landing strip in the middle of the forest, where I set up camp. It was several miles from any human civilization. At night, while I was sleeping next to the fire, I could see entire galaxies in the sky. One of the most incredible things I've experienced.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach classical guitar. I know a bit about civil and environmental engineering, if anyone's interested. If you're a European who's interested in U.S. politics, policy, or culture in general, I can talk about that sort of thing for a while.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share a good story from my travels, or be a good listener to other's stories. I can teach guitar, or discuss any topic at all.
