ABOUT ME

My name is Mattea and I'm from a little mountainous area in SWVA called Floyd. I grew up in Blacksburg, VA home of VA Tech. Currently, I work at a health food store doing a variety of things--helping customers, placing orders, working with local farmers and most of all supporting community based agriculture and business. It is truly a wonderful, rewarding and educational opportunity to serve my community.

On my own, I love gardening and creating green spaces! There's nothing more beautiful than seeing something blossom and take fruit. I care about the environment and encourage everyone to garden, recycle and eat local as well as organic.

We are the greatest magicians, the greatest sorcerers. The things we create are formed by the energy and purpose which we put into them. I love using wisdom and intention to help other people. I also love the wisdom which pools collectively from those who wish to share.

I am a yogi. I support the organic lifestyle. I love fire dancing and hula hoop dancing. I'm a painter and a photographer.. and a really good cook!

PHILOSOPHY

Love yourself, and you will learn to love others. Challenge yourself daily but stay mindful of your limitations. We all have a personal truth within us. Find it, live it!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined the Blacksburg CS group a few years ago, and so far I'm really enjoying meeting other hosts and surfers. I've been doing some traveling and surfing cross-country this summer of 2011 from VA to CO, crossing over into many states and visiting. My dream is travel more, work on farms, teach yoga in great places, see new countries, further my art career and learn more about green building.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed with various couchsurfing friends, and met a few hosts on trip out West. I've met with surfers travelling to Blacksburg and hosted some. Have grouped with the Blacksburg CS crowd for potlucks, stories, work parties, breakfest and activites downtown. I value this resource, all the organization, trust and wonderful people who are involved. Thank you all!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Completing my first yoga teacher training with 220-hours in Ashtanga Yoga. The power and wisdom of all my teachers and their knowledge is uplifting. Oh, and backpacking in Colorado with my friend John was amazing. I got to camp in the wildflowers and bathe in the ancient Navajo Lake.
