About Me

My wife Janet and I are pretty laid back, liberal homebodies. We don't drink or party, but we do enjoy socializing with friends, and host movie nights and game nights at our home regularly.

I enjoy discussing philosophy and religion, and consider myself to be a liberal atheist existentialist. I'm weird, nerdy, sarcastic and have a pretty good sense of humor. I try not to take the world too seriously, but I do have my opinions. I consider myself a social justice advocate, but I'm not out there tying myself to trees, or getting tear gassed in the streets.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My wife Janet and I are making an effort to travel more and explore the world.
We will be traveling cross country from May 2016 to August 2016 photographing national parks and driving the California coast. It's an adventure we have been planning for some time, though much shorter than we had hoped to make it. Sadly we don't really have the financial means to make our trip as all encompassing as we would like . Couch-surfing allows us to spread out our budget and visit more places and enjoy more experiences.

We are also interested in meeting new people, and feel that couch-surfing will allow us to do that far easier than staying in hotels.

Interests

Photography
I went back to school to get my photography degree in 2010, and now take my camera with me everywhere. I primarily shoot portraits at anime conventions, and enjoy it quite a bit even though it doesn't pay as much as I'd like.

Roleplaying games
I have been playing roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons since I was a teenager, and have even published my own games.

Janet enjoys reading, scrapbooking, professional wrestling (watching, not participating) and crocheting.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies
I am a fan of all varieties of movies, and have a pretty eclectic collection exceeding 500 DVDs. Narrowing down a favorite film is pretty difficult, but if I had to choose I would say Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Three times a year I host weekend long movie events at my home where I try to introduce my friends to obscure movies they have never heard of or have been an able to see. I often contact filmmakers to solicit screener copies of films that have yet to be released in the US. The biggest event is Gwinndance and lasts for 4 days.

Books
Although I have a degree in English I don't read nearly as much as I should. Janet on the other hand, reads daily and is a big fan of Mystery and crime novels, especially JD Robb, Iris Johansen and Kay Hooper.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sadly, I don't think I've done anything particularly amazing, but I'm a pretty humble person so I probably wouldn't know. Most people think that me taking in my friend who lost her job and was unemployed for 3 years is pretty amazing, but I honestly think that's just being a good friend.

I'm 44 years old and have never drank alcohol, even though I was in a fraternity. I guess that's pretty amazing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a professional photographer and would be more than happy to take a few portraits for our host(s) or take some nice photos of their home to use in their couch surfing profile.
