About Me

***RENOVATING HOUSE (including bedrooms) - unable to host until later August, pending progress. Would be happy to buy any traveller a dinner though!***

Looking at profiles on here, it seems as if everyone is super enthused with world travel. I suppose I'm wired differently - I'm just as happy hopping in the truck and driving north as I would be flying to the other side of the world. While other countries, geographies, cultures, people, and food (Yes...mainly food) interest me, British Columbia is my kind of beautiful.

I live for the outdoors, which is why I ended up pursuing a career in forestry (Specificially, managing reforestation at the moment).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Once upon a time, a lady friend and I were tree planting in the interior of BC. We had worked for a month, hadn't been paid yet, and had a week off between contracts. In short, we had $20 between the two of us and we were eating bread from the local co-op while living roadside in a van.

One fellow from the local reserve came by and invited us into his home (two dirty tree planters, right off the street and into his house). He fed us for a week, took us to a party at the river with his community, showed us their petroglyphs...amazing gentleman

Unfortunately, I lost his contact information when I went back to work. After the summer, I came back to civilization and tried to track him down online. This was more of a feat, as this was long before the days of facebook.

I eventually found his cousin, who notified me that he had gotten hooked on cocaine and then hung himself. Shame how people can be struck in such a short time period.

Interests

-Volunteering (I coach a number of youth activities and serve as a director for a few not for profit associations)
-Dinner shindigs (generally host a different themed dinner every weekend or so that I'm in town)
-Getting lost in the sticks (hiking, backpacking, quadding, wheeling, paddling, sustenance hunting, etc)
-Food
-Animals / wildlife
-Fine scotches and sipping tequilas.
-Interesting conversation + story telling

Music, Movies, and Books

Robert Jordan, David Eddings, Terry Brooks, David Farland, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The longest stretch I've spent in complete isolation was 28 days. No other people, no running water, no road access, etc. Just me, my gear and my books.

I think this is the only time in my life where my creative side flourished - I ended up designing the most advanced clothes hanging system in the world for when I'd rinse it off in creek.

I've also logged over 500 days living in a tent

Countries I’ve Visited

Mexico, Peru, United States
