Overview
About Me
Surprisingly, data scientists can be interested in just about anything and everything.
I like be grounded but open-minded. I do that by learning deeply about things I enjoy while still keeping a broad perspective, meeting new people, and making connections. I find that learning about the interconnectedness in life can be rather humbling. I'm very lucky to live my lifestyle both on and off the job! I do a lot of conference-related traveling. And if there's anything I love to do while traveling, it's meeting new people and learning more about the world.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When in Rome, do as the Romans do! I like to connect with local people when I can and get to know their cities better or just learn about new perspectives.
Interests
Being nerdy and inquisitive are kind of my jam. And doing data things. My YouTube recommendations can be kind of embarrassing haha. I also like learning about what people do and how they make decisions. Stick me in a competitive game and see what happens! I'm also interested in the influence of culture on people.
I balance out my nerdiness at a desk with hobbies like meditation and martial arts. For the aficionados: I do Taijiquan and a little Shaolin and karate, in particular. And generally, I'll hit up the local bar with friends or explore NYC a bit!
And generally, I like doing spontaneous things when traveling, especially local things.
- running
- meditation
- video games
- martial arts
- computer science
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Your typical "classics". Queen, BeeGees, Billy Joel, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, among others.
Movies: A Marvel movie? I'll probably see it on opening day haha. Also Pixar, science fiction generally, action, comedies (Hot Fuzz!), and yes the occasional romcom lol. Just not horrors.
Books: Never Split the Difference, Skin in the Game, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Antifragile, The Book of Why, The Professor is In.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A half marathon! Hm, what else? A sword tournament, some scuba, and almost getting hit by a car that demolished a store front (knock on wood!).
Teach, Learn, Share
I'd love to learn about what you do professionally, no matter who you are. I'd also love to share all things cultural, including food, cooking, and lifestyle. And any other randomness.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I live near Rutgers University in New Brunswick and can show you a few surprises NJ has to offer, including a quite international selection of restaurants. I'm also super close to the train to NYC, which is about a 1 hour train ride.
I can also recommend things NYC-related! And possibly things in the Bay Area, Arizona, and Florida.
I also probably have a few books on my shelf you've never heard of. :)
