Hello! I'm Matt. During the day I'm an analytical chemist, but when night falls (or, at least, when I have gaps and vacations in my schedule) I'm a novice bike tourist, avid traveler, and former collegiate crew coxswain getting back into rowing.

Couchsurfing started as a way to get lodging on a walking trip my friend and I did in high school. In college I was a little too busy to do much traveling (and couldn't really host in a single dorm room) but I'm hoping to get involved again.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Until I get my own place, I'm a little short on the hosting side of things. But I love exploring and traveling, especially by human-powered means, and sharing all the stories and facts I accumulate.

I can cook a little bit and am really easy to please if you're hosting (a couch or even floor space, 4 walls, and a roof are all I need). I'm pretty dang good fixing things, too. Give me tools and I can at least tell you what needs to be fixed.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed with three hosts on a spring break walking trip my friend and I took from NYC to Albany, New York. Upstate New York is a bit sparse when it comes to hosts, but all three were very kind, generous, and had tons of stories to share! It was a great experience meeting new people.

I once walked with a friend from New York City to Albany over spring break, which is actually how I was introduced to couchsurfing in the first place! It was a very different experience, traveling in 9 days what I normally travel in 3 hours. You get to see a region at your own pace, not dictated by the speed of others on the highway. And a bonus: calves of steel afterwards!

Give me proper tools and a broken mechanical thing and 95% of the time I can fix it or at least find out what's wrong. I will also do chores without hesitation, have a bunch of stories, and also am a really good listener.
