About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get my clothing line off the ground, travel, provoke thought, surf huge waves, create great art, graduate from law school and avoid becoming a lawyer.

ABOUT ME

I surf far too much for being in law school. I skip far too much school for being in law school. I spend too much time running my business for being in law school. On the other hand, I don't want to be a lawyer (never have) and so I'm fine with coasting through school for a bit while I get other things in order and enjoy my life. You may ask why I'm attending law school. The answer is: for fun. I was fortunate enough to get free tuition to my school and came because I was interested in law and felt that it would be a useful education in a general sense. The people are intelligent and passionate and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience (though the reading does get a bit heavy at times).

I am also a big wave surfer and an all around adventure surfer. I've always been attracted to surf trips that involve some amount of hiking or paddling of long distances, big waves and the opportunity to see the raw power of nature in full expression. I have lived in tents for months at a time in order to surf perfect waves and spend far too much time driving and hiking to surf out of the way waves along the northern california coastline.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe you only live once, and so you can't spend your life putting off fun until the end. If your day to day experience isn't enjoyable, you're blowing it. At the same time, I wan't to look back at my life when I'm 70 or so and feel proud of my accomplishments and that's (partly) why I'm focused on helping promote fair labor practices on a global scale. I think that business can be a force for good but that unrestrained capitalism is a destructive force. The role of government, NGO's and other bodies is to help set boundaries that will channel the benefits of capitalism in a way that enables the enlargement of the pie without allowing the distribution to get so lopsided that portions of the population live in life-threatening poverty.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've surfed Mavericks, a big wave spot in Northern California for the last couple of years. On January 4th of this year, I paddled out on one of the biggest days ever seen there and witnessed the ocean at its mightiest and most incredible. Fifty-foot walls launching themselves 7o feet out. It was a truly awe-inspiring experience.
