ABOUT ME

My name's Matt, and I'm from Scotland. I'm a full-time (somehow) songwriter/musician, which gives me a lot of freedom to travel and meet awesome people.

Most of the time I arrive in a place I'm there to play a show, and/or because I haven't been somewhere and decide to throw myself at a place and see what happens.

PHILOSOPHY

Most of the time I'm just trying to be happy, and (I think?) the way to get there is to find a way to do what you love as much as possible. Everything else is wasted energy.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't really got the space to put anyone up in my place in Glasgow right now, sadly, as our sofa is barely long enough to put a guitar on and we don't have any spare mattresses.

That said, give me a shout and I might be able to sort something out if you're in a real bind!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

September 10th 2013: I just couchsurfed all the way from Boston to LA on a US tour - THANK YOU COUCHSURFING. Incredible experience all-round.

July 16th 2013: I've been couchsurfing non-stop for the last six weeks. I've met so many incredible people, had so many amazing experiences. Here's to another few weeks of them!

Couchsurfed across the United States, playing shows as I went (Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Nashville, Ann Arbor, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Minneapolis, Stillwater, Denver, Seattle, Cannon Beach, Portland, San Francisco, San Luis Obisbo, LA). It was... well, honestly it was a really stupid idea, but it was unforgettable.

I was punched by a homeless man in Toronto. Then I was surrounded by locals who told him to back off, and invited me to hang out with them for the day. It was worth the punch.

I can give passable introductory lessons in playing guitar and songwriting. I'm reasonably good with computers and software. I'm also a qualified therapist and psychologist, so I can give some insight into those areas.
