About Me

CURRENT MISSION

current mission: couchsurf for 2-3 days while i look for a place to live in richmond.

ABOUT ME

i grew up in florida, have traveled extensively in latin america, and am currently seeking to enter an MFA program in creative writing in the US. for the moment i'm crashing with friends in portland, oregon. having studied creative writing and spanish as an undergrad, i'm not really well-prepared for any career in particular. i read as much as possible (currently fascinated by nicholson baker! updike never goes out of style. frank o'hara and lewis nordan are my soulmates. also amy hempel and lorrie moore. tons, really), try to write sometimes (mostly short stories, for now). i love good food, good wine, interesting, strange people, music (of many kinds...currently jiving on arthur russell, inti illimani, whitney houston, the magnetic fields...i try to mix it up), and riding my bike. the best thing about traveling is all of the crazy people one meets, the surprising places one ends up sleeping. so bring it on, couchsurfers!

PHILOSOPHY

"i just want to live, live, live!"
(quote from the cinematic masterpiece "the room"; if you have seen or appreciated this film, we will get along amazingly.)

but seriously. i try to be as humble as possible. listen more than i talk. read everything i can get my hands on. avoid television. live simply, but well. take the long way home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i've just started out, but i'm really intrigued by the CS project, and want to start branching out immediately! as my living situation in portland is a sort of couch-surfing experience in itself, i can't immediately host anyone there. however, once i achieve stability (and, yes, acquire a couch), count me in!

again, it seems that i sort of jumped the gun and overloaded my description.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i made it out of west-central florida, and am on my way to living a half-decent, half-interesting life, in exotic places, with fascinating people. that in itself never ceases to amaze me.
