Overview
About Me
I'm a 27 year-old guy from New York City currently traveling the world after working in consulting for a few years. I'm fiercely curious about the world, specifically the people I meet. So much so that I've undertaken a pet project of blogging a novel about my trip (feel free to check it out at www.MostlyNonfiction.com). In the past, I've been smitten with learning origami (I've been folding since I was 4), and I'm trying to learn as many new languages while I've traveling too. I'll be gone for almost a full year before I have to return to New York, but until then, I'm enjoying my travels immensely.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've been staying in hotels and hostels, both dorms and privates, and I've enjoyed those experiences where I can connect and have a great conversation with one or two people at a time. There's a better chance of getting to know that person and of being able to share art and conversations. This is just another way of saying that it's more fun. I'd much rather the money I'd spent on a hostel go towards buying my host some drinks or dinner or in some real shared experience.
Besides, people on Couchsurfing are generally more fun than the average local!
Interests
Origami - Until I hit Japan, I think there's a good chance I'm going to be the best folder you've ever met. And I almost exclusively fold for other people as a memento or gift.
Writing - I've been writing as a hobby for about 7 years now, and I'm finally looking to bone up on the craft and get GOOD.
Costuming - For the past 10 years I've been having fun with Halloween and music festivals, building a samurai outfit out of beer cases, a full reproduction of Professor Chaos from South Park, and my personal favorite "Slutty Superman" by shaving the Superman logo into my chest (I'm over Eastern European descent, so I'm quite hairy!).
Languages - I'm by no means one of those people who can just pick up a language in a few weeks, but I'm pretty good at learning vocabulary, and I can get pretty into it if I have the means of learning a new one. I know some quick phrases in a few languages, but can only really speak English and Hebrew, with a dash of Spanish.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm wild for IndiElectronica, musicians like School of Seven Bells, Lindsey Stirling, and other musicians who take the new wave of electronic sounds and blend them with older themes to make musical art instead of just fun dance beats. Don't get me wrong, I like to dance and I like those musicians too, but they aren't my 'favorite'.
Movies... well, my favorite movie is Groundhog Day, but anything with time travel will tickle my fancy. I have a hard time getting into Action movies, but I'll enjoy anything that's well-acted (and dislike things that aren't).
Books are surprisingly hard to answer. I have a whole class of books that are "guilty pleasure" fantasy novels like The Wheel of Time and anything by Brandon Sanderson. And more recently I've loaded my kindle up with the classics like War and Peace, The Prince, and other pieces of literature that I enjoy, but can't just chain-read like I can the fantasy books.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One? Just one?! I'm going to say that I was on an American game show in 2007. Want to know what show? How much money was involved? Good, I have a copy of my episode =)
What I Can Share with Hosts
I promise to teach you how to fold any origami model that I can make. Whether you retain it, that's up to you!
I'll also be willing to chat about whatever you might want to chat about (and promise not to be offended if/when our opinions differ). Curious about my travels? I can regale you with stories! Curious about American culture? I know I get asked a lot about my country's politics, gun laws, drug laws, and the like. I'd love to share what I've seen of my own country (I've traveled it extensively via plane and road trips).
And lastly, if we have a fun experience (which let's be honest, we will!) I may even write about you in the blog-novel. The blovel. I need a better name for that.
