About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be Happy

ABOUT ME

I'm talkative, incapable of sitting still, and an avid concert-goer. Some say I'm away from home too much, but to that I say "Compared to what?" I love seeing new places, especially ones that are outside.

PHILOSOPHY

We all need to relax.

Coming from New York, where everything needs to happen now, or five minutes ago, travelling outside of the metro area (to the South, and the West, and the Northeast, and Europe, and Israel) has been an adjustment.

I find that I am healthier and happier during and after my travels.

When I slow down, I notice me, and I notice everyone and everything else, a little better than I did before.

The more you know....(enter rainbow and star here)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have not yet hosted any couch surfers. However, I will be returning the favor soon.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have not yet couch surfed

Interests

Hobbies of mine include reading, knitting, listening to music (mostly indie rock and blue grass) of any kind anyone will share with me (except rap), hiking, yoga, and learning about just about anything.

I'm terrible at talking about astronomy, although I can look at the sky for hours.

Science grabs my attention but I don't actually know much about it. I should probably add a science mag to my subscriptions, which right now consist of Nat Geo and The Sun.

I'm not an intense participant in any outdoor pursuits I enjoy, but soon I will try actually backpacking. Right now I am content with my daytime hikes, kayak trips, and bike rides. I feel so good after being out there all day doing something strenuous and seeing beautiful places.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Well, there are some classics. Princess Bride, Space Balls, Fight Club, A Little Princess, 10 Things I Hate About You, An Affair to Remember, Monty Python and the Holy Grail...I'll pretty much watch anything that isn't scary.

Music:
Indie Rock: We Are Scientists, The National, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks
Bluegrass: The Avett Brothers, Chris Thile, New Grass Revival, Nickel Creek, The Duhks
Other: Ben Folds, Ian Axel, Bedouin Soundclash, jazz music, classical, classic rock, stuff

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I trekked in Nepal and being surrounded by the colossal Himalayan mountain range was such an amazing experience. From my vantage point, Everest didn't look like the highest peak, and it is by far not the most beautiful, but some of the other mountains were just unlike anything I had ever seen.

When I was in junior high, I went to Meteor Crater in Arizona and I remember being fascinated with how deep the crater was, and terrified that I would be attacked by a scorpion or snake. I should go back and see if I have the same experience now.

Teach, Learn, Share

Knitting: I am getting more proficient at knitting. I've moved from scarves to hats to gloves to Christmas ornaments. I think I've peaked.

Dancing: My coordination is terrible, but I would love to learn how to dance. I tried taking some ballroom/tango/swing classes a few years ago, and while I was better than most men, I still have zero confidence.

Violin: I used to be good...10 years ago. Blue grass fiddle makes me wish I had kept with it. I practice and get discouraged every once in awhile, but, if there is a jam session happening, I am willing to take care of the tamborine section.

On the bright side, I am really good at laughing at myself.

Countries I’ve Visited

Barbados, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Nepal

Countries I’ve Lived In

Israel, United Kingdom, United States
