Sobre mí

I was born in California, but grew up in Colorado where mountains, skiing, backpacking, and snow worked their way into my DNA. I am a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder with bachelors degrees in anthropology and civil engineering.

In the summer between my sophomore and junior year of college, I had the opportunity to travel to Nepal on an anthropological research grant to study the the effects of urbanization on Sherpas in Kathmandu and in the Solukhumbu region. It was my first experience traveling outside the US and also my first experience traveling alone. Needless to say, it had an impact on me. A very profound impact. I returned to Nepal during the subsequent two summers to work with Engineers Without Borders on water access projects in Ilam municipality, which is a beautiful town on the eastern border with India. The combination of my three trips to Nepal proved to be the largest catalyst for my desire to explore international development as a potential career, and to make travelling a part of the rest of my life.

In pursuit of these passions after graduating, I applied for several different jobs and was very fortunate to receive an offer to work as a business development associate with a Denver-based international development NGO called iDE. iDE works to provide income and livelihood opportunities for rural poor individuals around the world through unsubsidized, market-based products and services. As someone who has become a bit critical of the international aid industry at large, I was elated to be accepted into an organization that values individuals as agents in their well-being (as opposed to being treated as passive receptacles of aid and goodwill). I am currently working in several of iDE's offices around the world, and will be away from the US until February of 2016...more or less.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

It took me five years of college and an anthropology degree to finally realize something pretty simple about us: Money aside, the true currency of human beings is our stories and our relationships with each other. Simple as that. I am all about meeting new people, building relationships, sharing old stories, and creating new ones! And what better way to do that than couchsurfing!
