One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

At the end of the John Muir Trail, in California's Sierra Nevadas, I climbed to the top of Mount Whitney to watch the sunrise over the forest-fire-smoke-filled valley. The sun turned the smoke a bright red, and the mountain tops poking out of the smoke made it seem like I was looking at an ocean of fire. Regardless of how cold and sleep deprived we were, it was the best.
