About Me

Hey,
I'm Max, thirty years old and born and raised in Leipzig. If I haven't been travelling around Europe and further, I have been in Leipzig most of the time. The place I call home, is a quite unique flat within the alternative city part of Leipzig, I have been living here for ages and since the last 7 years with my Dog called Alma. She isn't here all the time, since I'm sharing her with a friend.

Recently, I had a chat with a friend, who used to use CouchSurfing quite a lot, and that brought me to the decision to re-activate my account and get to meet new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I genuinely love connecting with people from different cultures. For me, traveling is not about ticking off landmarks, but about sharing everyday life, conversations, and real experiences. Couchsurfing makes it possible to meet people you would probably never encounter otherwise, and that sense of exchange and community is what I enjoy most.

As a host:
I’m happy to show you some of Leipzig’s more unique and interesting corners. In my neighbourhood there is usually something going on, from concerts and exhibitions to small local events, and I like to keep an eye on what’s happening around the city. My flat is spacious enough for you to have your own room, which can be especially nice after being on the road for a while and needing some time and space to relax.

As a guest:
I’m an easy-going and curious person who loves learning about new languages, cultures, and ways of life. Music plays a big role in my world, so I’m always interested in discovering local scenes, whether that’s live shows, small bars, or simply exchanging playlists. I really enjoy sharing stories, cooking together, or just sitting down with a drink and having a good conversation.

Interests

I enjoy reading a lot, and music is a big part of my life. I’m open to all kinds of sounds, no matter the genre, and I see music and the arts in general as something essential. For me, they are the glue that holds society together, bringing people closer, creating shared memories, and opening space for unexpected moments. In many ways, concerts and festivals feel a bit like travelling: you meet new people, discover new perspectives, and sometimes even a new side of yourself. That’s one of the reasons why I love organising concerts and working on festivals whenever I can.

Languages are another big fascination of mine because they reflect the cultures they come from. There are always words that can’t be translated directly into another language, and those untranslatable expressions are, to me, what make each language truly unique.

Travelling is also very important to me. I especially love Turkey, whose mix of cultures, landscapes, and music inspires me every time I go. I’ve done a lot of hitchhiking, which I enjoy not only as a way of getting around, but also as a way of meeting people and hearing unexpected stories. And whenever I can, I like to go hiking. Being out in nature, walking through mountains or forests, is one of the best ways for me to clear my head and recharge.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is a big part of my everyday life and my taste is quite wide-ranging. I’m especially drawn to darker, emotional sounds like post-punk, alternative rock, and atmospheric metal, but I also enjoy techno and acoustic music with strong storytelling. What matters most to me is music that feels raw and honest, whether it’s loud and energetic or calm and reflective. I love discovering local scenes, underground shows, and the music people actually listen to in different places.

When it comes to films, I’m drawn to stories with strong atmosphere and memorable characters. Intense dramas, dark comedies, and movies with a slightly surreal or mysterious touch are among my favourites. I enjoy films that stay with you long after watching, whether because of their emotional depth, visual style, or powerful storytelling. There’s also a special place in my heart for cult classics and unconventional cinema.

Art in general is something I deeply value. I see music, film, and all creative expression as a powerful way of bringing people together, creating shared memories, and opening new perspectives. For me, art is a form of communication that goes beyond language and often feels like a journey in itself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve had so many unforgettable moments while traveling that it’s challenging to choose just a few. Hiking up to 4,000 meters was one of the most challenging and rewarding things I’ve ever done, and trekking through the jungle in Vietnam showed me an entirely different side of nature. I love discovering new flavors, so trying food from all over the world has been a trip in itself — every dish tells a story. And hitchhiking around Europe gave me the chance to meet incredible people, share rides, and hear stories I never would have encountered otherwise.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning new languages because for me, every language opens a new window into understanding people and their culture. In return, I’m always happy to share my knowledge of German with anyone who’s interested. I also enjoy exchanging music and travel stories, since these conversations often lead to new perspectives, unexpected inspiration, and hidden gems.

Another thing I love to share is my knowledge of Leipzig. It’s a city full of history, creativity, and vibrant cultural life, and I enjoy showing people a side of it that you won’t always find in guidebooks.

I can also teach how to organise concerts in DIY spaces and alternative venues, share my experience working on festivals, and pass on what I’ve learned about independent cultural work. Cooking together is something I really enjoy as well, and I’m always happy to talk about my hitchhiking experiences and the many stories that came with them.

What I can offer to share is a good, clean, and calm home, my knowledge of Leipzig and other cities in Germany, and a welcoming space where people can relax, connect, and feel comfortable.

When it comes to learning, I’m always curious. New languages are high on my list, as well as learning how to sail. I’m also very interested in outdoor skills and traditional crafts, such as sashiko and survival techniques. At the moment, I’m trying to learn how to bow drill and make fire the old-fashioned way.

Filmmaking and photography are also things I’d love to get into, even though I don’t have any real experience yet. I’m fascinated by visual storytelling and would love to learn the basics of how to document people, places, and moments, especially while travelling or working at festivals and concerts.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When I stay at your place, I bring an open mind, good energy, and a relaxed atmosphere. I enjoy meaningful conversations, simple moments, and sharing everyday life, whether that’s cooking together, having a tea or a beer in the evening, or just hanging out after a long day.

I’m always happy to help out around the house and treat your home with care and respect. If you like, I can cook vegetarian meals, make good tea, and put on some nice music to create a cozy mood.

I also enjoy sharing travel stories, hitchhiking adventures, and experiences from organizing concerts and working at festivals. I value a good balance between spending time together and giving each other space, and I always try to be an easy-going and thoughtful guest.
