About Me

Hi there.

My name is Max Gayler and I'm just another person looking to meet new people and enjoy good experiences. I'm looking for housing any time between June 26th and July 26th in London!

I've just finished my degree in Journalism and moving into freelance videography. My work normally gives me some exciting endeavours either working at events or with television stations so it keeps me busy and means i'm always doing some new.

I was raised in Perth, Australia but I have lived most of my life in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England. I lived in Sydney for a year when I was 18 followed by three years in London and I'm moving to Prague, Czechia in August.

Honestly, I'm a clean and motivated guy who is always interested in engaging with new people and I'd appreciate it so much if anybody could lend me a hand.

Thank you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Having moved out of London at the end of May I've been offered a graduate scheme with Huck magazine so I'll be working 9-6 Monday to Friday every week from June 26th until July 26th.

London rent is becoming extortionate and living anywhere close to the city centre costs far too much for anybody, let alone a man who's already £45,000 in debt.

I'm more than happy to live anywhere in London and am just excited to help out different folks.

Interests

I've played music most of my life from drums to guitar to piano to synthesised vocoder. Whilst I still dabble in a lot of things I still love playing piano. Whilst I don't plan on having any instruments with me, I'd love to get involved if there are any music happenings.

Working in videography I'm obviously very invested in my cameras and such so if there is anybody who shares this interest i'd love to discuss the subject and learn more about it.

I love Studio Ghibli and have grown up with Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke as my go to films. This has led to an interest in Japanese culture and language.

Obviously my degree in journalism means I feel obliged to write. If anybody needs help reversing a parking ticket or making their work more concise I'd be more than happy to help.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC: Tame Impala, Biffy Clyro, Gregory Porter, Benjamin Frances Leftwich, PUP, RY X, John Tillman, System Of A Down, Ray Charles, Death Grips, Jay Prince and so much more!

FILMS: Her, Lolita, Anything by Stanley Kubrick to be honest. Blue Is The Warmest Colour, 12 Angry Men.

BOOKS: The Buried Giant, Eiger Dreams, Into The Wild, Lady Chatterley's Lover, The Great Gatsby.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I received my advanced divers PADI whilst I lived on a sail boat in Airlie Beach, Australia. The highlight of this course was jumping into the Great Barrier Reef, in which there are only three breeds of jellyfish (two of which will kill you in under 36 seconds, the other stings for a bit but nothing more). I jumped off the boat, felt an electric jolt of pain and frantically climbed the ladder into the boat. Barely able to get my words out I begged the captain to tell me what to do. In the most cliché Aussia attitude, he just looks me up and down and says "Wait 36 seconds...".

Teach, Learn, Share

As mentioned I can teach anybody in terms of working on their writing, playing an instrument, speaking some (pretty mediocre) Spanish, how to skate and anything photography based.

On top of this, living alone for a few years means I'm a pretty radical cook so like any guest will 100% be cooking up something special to say thank you to anybody who houses me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories (sorry), cooking, cleaning, organising.

Honestly, I'm just a people-loving person like any healthy couch surfer and looking to make more friends and memories.
