Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Finding a job in the areas I studied, learning to rock climb outside, getting poetry published
ABOUT ME
I love interesting conversations, adventures, meeting people, learning new things. I finished undergrad degrees in sociology and biology last winter, then volunteered at a farm and a girls' dormitory in Peru for a couple months. This gave me the travel bug, and now I want to go everywhere...met amazing people in Lima and the Sacred Valley.
PHILOSOPHY
The world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
-Mary Oliver
O sweet spontaneous
earth how often have
the
doting
fingers of
prurient philosophers pinched
and
poked
thee
, has the naughty thumb
of science prodded
thy
beauty. how
often have religions taken
thee upon their scraggy knees
squeezing and
buffeting thee that thou mightest conceive
gods
(but
true
to the incomparable
couch of death thy
rhythmic
lover
thou answerest
them only with
spring)
-E.E. Cummings
...well basically, I think that the earth is a great place and many of the people on it are too :)
I've been trained as a scientist and love analyzing the world that way...but am over that for a while and would like to explore the other sides of things
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm pretty new to CS. I really love DC and would love to share that with folks who are new to here.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
An old friend from college is a couchsurfer and has been talking for ages about how great the community is. He invited me along to a couchsurfing event, and since then, I've met a bunch of DC couchsurfers, and he's right, they're great!
Interests
Everything outdoors. Hiking, swimming in lakes, sailing, canoeing, rock climbing. I love tossing a frisbee, singing with folks who play instruments, and trying out new recipes on anyone willing to eat them

Music, Movies, and Books
At present: no movies because I'm trying to save money. Music: Tallest Man on Earth is a great musician and poet. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese makes me stay up reading till 2am when I have to get up for work the next day, so I think that means its good.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Backpacked the Absaroka Beartooth wilderness in Montana, where we saw no one outside of our group for the whole week, except for a man with very few teeth and a few horses he had along with him, it was that wild. Encountered a black bear in a river while skinny dipping. Spent 2 days alone & fasting on an island in Maine. Seen Macchu Picchu at dawn when mist is rising from the stones and the swallows are dive bombing the ruins and there's no human voices to cloud the feeling that you are in the presence of ghosts.
Been shown Puerto Rico and Peru by a couple of awesome families who adopted me, put up with my sometimes bad spanish, introduced me to all their friends and showed me the best mountains, beaches, and dive bars each place has to offer.
