About Me

ABOUT ME

Currently, I am an high school ESL teacher for the JET program. I live on a small island and work on an even smaller island. I even get to take a ferry 3 times a week to work, and I think that is the COOLEST. Before coming to Japan, I spent 6 years in Greenville, SC working on my bachelor and master degrees. But deep down, I am a country girl from West Virginia. I enjoy traveling and meeting new people--learning about their culture and what they love. In college, I kept a pretty active schedule. Life on the island is much more laidback, and I am finding I like this tempo as well.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am newly introduced to the CS program, but love it. I stayed with a friend, who is also a CS, and she told me all about her wonderful guests. I can't wait to get started.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am just getting started. Can't wait to experience and then share.

Interests

I love snokeling, reading, beach-time, VOLLEYBALL, talking, laughing, hiking, camping, back-packing, rock-climbing (novice), SPORTS, coffee, cooking with friends, but not alone.... I love people and spending time enjoying life. I love being active and on the move whether hiking in Yosemite or playing a game of pick-up volleyball. But I am also content with a good latte, good book, and a quiet corner.

Music, Movies, and Books

In the years of college, I didn't take much time for movies and tv. Nor did I take time for any books besides the course assigned. Now that I am finished and find myself with more free time, I am re-connecting with my first true love--books. I love historical fiction and the classics. I have read and will continue to re-read Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, and more. I also like a good non-fiction book. And now that I am living in Japan, I find myself reading more and more books about and set-in Japan.

When it comes to movies, I like a good romantic comedy, but make room for some action movies. I have also found myself watching TV series in bulk. Finding a good one, and running through several seasons over the course of a few weeks. Someone... invite me to play volleyball. No more TV.

When it comes to music, I am very uneducated. I enjoy learning from other people what their tastes are and what they like. Ask my friends, I am music illiterate. I rely on my friends for good music advice.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to snorkel with 2 friends and 3 turtles. I am amazed at the incredible world down under.
