About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finish law school

ABOUT ME

I love traveling, especially by integrating myself into the people and culture of the place that I'm visiting.

After graduating college I moved to Washington DC to work as a research fellow for an organization that focuses on nuclear non-proliferation and conventional weapons trafficking. Then I taught high school on the Big Island of Hawaii for 2 years. Now, I'm finishing up law school.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is to break free from the classic 9-5 and the dominant culture of consumerism. I spend each day trying to make improvements to my life - mind, body, spirit. My most frequent changes involve limiting the amount of materials that I allow myself while seeking happiness in the simple beauties of day-to-day life instead.

I believe in utilizing individual talents and opportunities for the betterment of the international community, regardless of what those talents and opportunities may be. In my case, I strive to use my educational opportunities to better society in some meaningful way.

...and another personal philosophy? Have fun doing it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Prior to the summer of 2009 I had Couchsurfed in Philadelphia, Flagstaff (both U.S. cities), Mexico, China, and the UK. Over the summer of 2009 I CouchSurfed in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Rome.

I can't express the value of sharing culture and making memories this way - it has been truly irreplaceable. A shout out to every one of my hosts and the meaningful impacts they have made in my life.

Interests

Road trips, hiking, backpacking, trying new foods, policy, school, Tae Kwon Do, and adventures (these are a few of my favorite things).

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Into The Wild, V For Vendetta, Slumdog Millionaire, The Good Shepherd, Blood Diamond, Lord of War

Books: The Pursuit of Happyness, The Kite Runner, Freakonomics, The Geography of Bliss, the End of Poverty, Harry Potter, Charlie Wilson's War

Music: 30 Seconds To Mars, My Chemical Romance, Chevelle, Boys Like Girls, The All-American Rejects, Jason Mraz, Radiohead, Muse, Classical Music, 90s Music

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took a road trip from Fort Worth, TX all the way to San Francisco, down the Pacific Coast to San Diego, and back! The Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Yosemite, and Big Sur is only a small list of places we saw on the way... in six days.

Biking the City Wall in Xi'an, China was pretty cool too.

...but nothing tops the experience I had in summer 2009, when I CouchSurfed through six different countries over the course of a month.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am interested in seeing how people live their lives and what ideas or items are most important to them. I want to learn how to transcend my understanding of what it means to be a Texas citizen, and understand what it means to be a truly global citizen.
