About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Grow.

ABOUT ME

I am all of active, curious, vivacious and patient. I will read everything on the bookshelf and dance until the music arrives. If I were permanently affixed to a bicycle I would not complain. I write haikus, bake challah, and floss daily.

PHILOSOPHY

Tread lightly and create a wake of positivity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed couches before I knew about this website, living out of a backpack and meeting people around the world through an extended game of who-knows-whom. Now I live in Chicago and people come to visit me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I believe that even if you are houseless, as long as you have strong values and good friends, you will never be without a home. For awhile I traveled permanently, riding a flimsy foam sleep pad on a wave of blind faith, discovering that a clean thumb and a smile buys rides across the states. I've owned two bicycles and one sailboat but never a car.

One year on the path I tried to note every place camped, docked, and anchored until the notebook filled up. Now I have a guestbook for visitors, a few couches, and a roof. Kind, conscious travelers are invited before I hit the road again.

Interests

For a living, I navigate political-economic systems towards improving freshwater resources and human and ecological health.

For fun, I enjoy yoga, swimming, bicycling, Salsa dance, backpacking, ultimate frisbee, urban gardening, democratic participation, headstands, and kale.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to Nora Jones and Django Reinhardt. I read the New Yorker and Foreign Policy for even keel. Vying for best author are Khaled Hosseini, Safran-Foer, Atwood, and Tom Robbins, who said "We waste time looking for the perfect lover, when we should be creating the perfect love."

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode in the World Naked Bike Ride.

I survived a roll-over bus crash in northern Laos.

I presented to the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC.

I piloted a government research ship.

I lived in a tree-sit.

I won Chiditarod.

I cannot count to one.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to bake bread, write a winning grant proposal, and change a flat tyre on your bike. I can teach you how to mobilize voters, read Hebrew, and identify wild edible plants.

But not all at once.

I would like to learn to build a website and play Redemption Song on the guitar.

Cambodia, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Laos, Mexico, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam
