updatete 4: Jan 2016. I have not been able to host for a while taking care of some real world stuff. I hope this pause in hosting does not reflect poorly, since i plan to travel in 2016. I have not given up or forgot about you.

update 3: 2014 after being signed off for a while and now reopening I have noticed the early 20s do not read profiles and seem to not care about host's acceptance into thier HOME. I have accepted a few early 20s and a few days later they say they found somewhere else will complete disregard to my stance. INFURIATING.

update 2: 2012 Now that i have been involved for a stint, one thing jumps out. It is ALL about the people. At first I mostly took this as a way for peeps to save some bucks and sleep in interesting places. While this is a definite positive side effect, for me it is truly about learning the local community in which my surfer came from. I can look up Female Brazilian water polo on Wiki, but to hear personal depictions really sends it home (thanks Rafa)

update 1: had a great time in Brazil. Was there for 5 weeks and got a good dose of exposure to the true power of a community. Well organized fun and engaging I got to witness the true potential of this site.

i saw a kid with head phones crossing the street absolutely destroyed by a speeding car. We assumed we just witnessed death. However he stands up, brushes his shoulder off, looks around, takes off his headphones and tosses them in the trash as he calmly walked down the block shrugging his shoulders and shaking his head.
