About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To do and enjoy as much as possible while here in Germany

ABOUT ME

I grew up in the mountains of East Tennessee, and I am venturing out of the US for the first time in order to study at Dortmund University in Dortmund, Germany. I am truly having the time of my life here in Europe--meeting new people and seeing new places :-) Since coming to Germany, however, I have learned that I will always be in love with the Appalachian Mountains, and I will always belong there.

Once I return home, I will begin planning my wedding to the man of my dreams. I miss him terribly, but I now that we are meant to be together and even 4,000 miles cannot truly separate us.

My absolute favorite pastimes are reading and sleeping. Especially if either of these involve being outside in warm weather.

PHILOSOPHY

I hate hypocrites, and I try very hard not to be one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just learned about CouchSurfing from some other international students here in Dortmund. I do not have to means to host someone here, but I am looking forward to surfing, meeting new people, and possibly hosting once I go home!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Interests

I love sunsets, the sky, a good apple, ice cream (especially if it involves chocolate or raspberry), thunderstorms, singing at the top of my lungs with my best friends, seeing people happy, going to the park and swinging on the swings, that feeling you get when you try on something and it looks amazing on you, hugs, the smell of the mountains, taking funny pictures with my friends, just pictures in general, watching movies, naps, long hot showers, hanging out in my hammock, laughing, jeans and t-shirt weather, camp, sleepovers, pillow fights, the way some people understand without you having to say a word, cuddling, kisses, sweatpants, playing with animals, Cheerios, tea (iced, hot, chai, whatever!), sillyness, big hugs from old friends, the feeling of sunshine, and snuggly blankets.

Germany is teaching me how to drink. Franziskaner Hefe-Weiss is now my favorite beer.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a literature major, so I don't think I could possibly give an exhaustive list of books that I love, but maybe I can make a top ten. I must warn you, though, that this varies by day, so this is my top ten as of 10.6.2009:
1. Tale of Two Cities
2. Count of Monte Cristo
3. The Lord of the Rings
4. Anna Karenina
5. Blood and Chocolate
6. The Last Temptation of Christ
7. The Brothers Karamazov
8. Harry Potter
9. Angels and Demons
10. The Wizard of Oz
I feel like everyone who has a uterus believes that Jane Austin is the best author that ever lived, and I disagree with this belief.

I love movies, and I am pretty open to watching anything once. Here's my top ten list for those. The same disclaimer applies:
1. Boondock Saints
2. The Shawshank Redemption
3. The Princess Bride
4. The Kill Bill movies (and most anything by Quentin Tarantino)
5. Transformers
6. Fiddler on the Roof
7. Labyrinth
8. The Lord of the Rings
9. Batman Begins and the Dark Knight
10. The Star Wars trilogy (yes, it is a trilogy, I've blocked episodes 1-3 out of my mind, and I like to pretend that they never made the new ones)
The only two movies that I disliked so much that I turned them off before finishing them were P.S. I Love You and Rent.

I listen to all kinds of music. Despite my residence in Tennessee, I don't like country music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my favorite trips since coming to Germany was traveling to Kutna Hora, Czech Republic in order to find the Kostnice Ossuary (aka the bone church). We just hopped on a bus in Prague with no knowledge of the Czech language and no particular plan on how we were going to find this church or how we were going to get back to our hostel in Prague. Once we arrived, we walked to every church we could see (which was quite a few), and we finally were given an advertisement for a pizzeria with a map on the back of it, leading us to a church that was decorated with the bones of over 4,000 people that died in a plague. It was really bizarre and totally cool. I'm usually a hard-core planner and worrier, and this was probably the most spontaneous thing I've ever done.
