ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is McKayla. I believe that there is a joy in travelling. The destination is not always what it is about. The people you meet, the hours spent watching the land roll away from view, the places you touch that so many others have, the part of history you become, the laughter, the stories, the memories, the life you are living and so much more. I can not be sure of the future. I am only sure of two things - 1. I am going to be with the love of my life (and I am luckier than ever for that to have happened) and 2. Whatever career I find myself in, I want my work to help someone experience less difficulty, bring someone to safety, and to help someone achieve happiness (even if it is only for one moment).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, I am only down as a couch surfer. In the future, however, I am open to give a couch or guest bed. This life is meant to be enjoyed and travel is one of the greatest joys. I want people to be able to do that as safely as possible and show them which ever part of the world I try to know.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a new member. This site was recommended to me by a college friend who insisted on the great experiences and wonderful opportunities.

Interests

I am interested in art, poetry, literature, spoken word, music, identity politics, language (although I am not the best at it by far), dance, participating in a community, bringing fresh, healthy food to families unable to afford to adequately feed themselves, providing shelter to domestic abuse victims, gender theory, sustainable living, gardening, composting, recycling, human expression, and the people in this world.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Inception, Fight Club, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Alfred Hitchcock films, films with Sydney Pointier, older films, psychological films, philosophical films, and anything else that wakes up some part of my soul.

I love music and I don't pretend to be an expert. Some of the songs I like are by Lykke Li, Florence + the Machine, Bjork, Rachael Yamagata, Mumford & Sons, Lissie, Iron & Wine, Jaymay, Regina Spektor, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, Sam Cooke, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Marley, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Smiths, Elliot Smith, Simon & Garfunkel, Fiona Apple, The Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, Andre 3000, Beck, and whatever else can be found. Music moves me and I love dancing.

I love James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, Kate Chopin, e.e. cummings, Philip Pullman, Paulo Coehlo, and as many others as can be discovered.
