ABOUT ME
Hello! I'm a full-time worker bee, like meeting new people and having the craic. I'm easy-going, hospitable, open-minded, adaptable and like to have a bit of the 'ol chat. I like to meet genuine people who have formed their own ideas about the world..always much more interesting than people who just accept things the way they're presented. I have a lot of friends all over the place, many of whom are very different to each other...that comes back to the adaptable bit about me I suppose. I like Dublin at the moment as it's a total melting pot of different cultures which is so cool...it's like you can explore world cultures without leaving home! This is good as I'm quite focussed on my work at the moment and won't allow myself to run off on a mad fun travelling frenzy no matter how much I might want to! Saying that I think I might have been out of the country for nearly all of my 22 days of holidays this year all the same! (I guess clearly Dublin isn't all that great!!ha ha).
PHILOSOPHY
My philosophies are ever evolving but I have always felt that I wanted to make a positive influence on the world... basically be nice to people! Oh and more people should recognise what's important in life too...i.e. not materialism, one-up-manship and success etc. I'm quite political but I guess that'd just be opening up a whole can of worms if I try and lay out my philosophies there! I might even start going on about my idea of pragmatic vegetarianism and a grey vision of the world. Hmmmmm....but I guess if I were gonna pull out one idea it would be that a change of consciousness in society is possible...it's all about the monkeys and the potatoes....
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm happy to offer my couch if I'm about and it's not an unconvenable moment. I guess I might take the notion to couch surf at some time in the future..who knows!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm no stranger to couches but it's usually people I know already...equally am no stranger to friends and friends friends making use of my couch. Have never previously used this website however.
Interests
I love what I studied and what I work at...which is ecology and conservation.
I also love travelling and getting to know other cultures and to learn new languages. We can all learn new things about ourselves and about our understanding of how things operate with people and the world by just looking at life from other peoples perspectives from time to time...but then again I think all you couch surfers out there know that already don't you!
...other things:.....capoeira...going to house parties...cooking...meeting friends....listening to good music and discovering new music (electronic is great..funky & down-tempo..but also many other music types!! Clearly nor enough space here to do this theme justice)....a good old dance to some funky electronika or ska...being outdoors (Thankfully get alot of this with my job!)... political activism and thought (mister Karl Marx has been attracting my attention recently).....red wine (does that count as an interest?).....painting and drawing (shamefully not much of that recently..blush)...a recent addict to "Stumble Upon"...helping people out!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was sitting with some friends in a square in Skopje in Macedonia eating some stickybuns and watching a load of kids skate boarding in the evening gloom. We were in our own happy little daze. A little kid came over to try to talk with us and laugh and of course to get a sticky bun. I gave him one and he sat and continued to hold out his hands. Everyone said he was just being greedy and not to give him another but he continued to sit there and I said maybe he wanted to share it with a friend or a little brother so I gave him mine. We all watched as he then ran over to who must've been his brother and split the goods with him. Everyone immediately felt guilty about not wanting to give him another cake. Not long after he came over again to play nearby and my Macedonian friend started to speak with him in Macedonian. After their long converstation I asked what they'd been talking about. My friend explained that the young boys dad had been put into jail the month before and his whole family had apparently been chucked out of their home and were now living in the park. He pointed behind me and said "Look, that's them over there". And I looked and right en'uf saw about 15 people young and old sitting in a big circle in the darkness of the small city park. We'd all been having such a magical week really enjoying ourselves and having so much fun I wasn't expecting to hear such a tragic story from the cute little boy..everyone felt very shocked at the terrible story and it suddenly gave a very different feeling to the situation. Of course we gave all the rest of the small pastries to the boy and he ran to share them with his family. It had quite a big impact on me that evening. I think it was an amazing experience. And moral of the story : Never forget how lucky you are!!!
Teach, Learn, Share
I recently dcided that I'm good at teaching people how to drive..and I have a car...so. Also I think I generally have interesting experiences and reflections to share if anyone cares to sit up till all hours with a bottle of wine or two whilst listening to some tunes and having a good prattle. I could tell you about the monkeys and potatoes for example!
