About Me

CURRENT MISSION

living more of the life I want to live - mine :o)

ABOUT ME

I'm a layouter/ cartoonist in a small office by (work)day and a painter/ writer by night. I like to meet new people and go to new places and, obviously, I like to create things/ do creative things.
I'm not so much of a party animal which simply means I'd rather talk to people in a normal voice and in coherent sentences than having to shout over music and getting drunk senselessly ;o)
I might appear more introvert to people who meet me for the first time than I really am, but I really do like a good laugh and getting to know people.
I'm pretty down-to-earth, open-minded, like to be creative, like to laugh, like to learn new things and hate to be bored, waste time or be around stressed-out people.
I'm also very interested in foreign culture and foreign food!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I went to Stockholm with a friend for a week in 2008, which was sort of adventurous but turned out well in the end. I also went to Amsterdam via CS in 2009 which was, well, adventurous, too, but of a good kind. In 2010 I went to Copenhagen, where I experienced my best stay with CS ever, thanks to our wonderful host.
Me and the friends I lived with until recently hosted several couchsurfers in our shared apartment and they were all really nice people.

Interests

I love to paint and write. When I go to a foreign city I spend days walking the streets, taking notes, drawing, taking pictures of places that fascinate me. I also like to read and I'm very interested in art and in literature generally.
I'm writing my thesis in Prehistory and Early history so I'm very interested in the material culture of the past.
I love sports. I cycle and I like snowboarding, hiking and climbing. I'm very interested in politics and history and I love to sing. I'm also very interested in architecture. Oh, and I'm very fond of good food.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like REM, U2, Sting, Bob Dylan, TV on the Radio and other assorted modern songs, but I also like classical music, like Brahms, Händl, Mahler, Vivaldi, Dvorak, Beethoven etc.
I love to read books in English. Some of the authors I like are Elizabeth George, Lindsey Davis, Edward Rutherfurd, Roddy Doyle, Evelyn Waugh and Paul Auster.
German authors I like are Stefan Zweig, Franz Kafka and Friedrich Dürrenmatt but I have to admit I haven't read many books in German lately, especially not by more recent authors.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to Iraqi Kurdistan in 2013 and it was an amazing, amazing trip. I loved the landscape and the people, who were so friendly and optimistic about their future independence and who tried their darndest to further women and young people within their society. I guess it helped that Kurdistan is pretty untouched by war or religious violence.
I've seen northern lights up in North Dakota once - that was amazing. And I've seen a total eclipse of the sun which was amazing, too.
And if you count digging up tons of old stones, bones and fragments and sifting through dirt for weeks on end (i.e. going on excavation) without getting paid for it amazing, then that, too, is one amazing thing I've done ;o).

Countries I’ve Visited

Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Iraq, Italy, Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States
