Visiting places in the midst of war and chaos (Afghanistan, Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, etc) and finding such humanity and compassion; seeing the joie de vivre is places like Cuba, where community, song, dance are so much more important than material things; meeting heads of state in places like Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador who are trying to build more just societies; spending time in indigenous cultures who have so much to teach us about living in a sustainable way
