About Me
I go by Meg or Meggi (she/they/ella/elle)
I am a student researcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
I have one dog named Suki! She is an Alaskan sled dog. I am studying how to replace plastics and other petroleum-derived materials using microorganisms such as fungi and bacteria. I am passionate about creating artwork using the intersection of biology and design and incorporating traditional wisdom into my work. I love mindfulness, reading, and exercise. I love to cook fresh and healthy meals. I enjoy quiet and peaceful environments and am not a night owl.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I mostly travel for academic purposes, such as conferences and internships, but occasionally I am passing through a city or town for outdoor skills/safety training or occasionally concerts and art-related activities.
Sometimes I get travel award funding, however, it is very expensive traveling from Alaska so it is wonderful to connect with people where I am traveling to, in case my lodging or funds do not come through since I am on a tight budget.
Music, Movies, and Books
Anything really! I love to ready and am currently reading "The Quietest Singing" which is a collection of local writing by Hawaii Award for Literature recipients, published in 2000. I love finding books by people in the places I visit to connect more with the spirit of place-based wisdom.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was on a fully remote team that designed a zero-energy home for a community in Alaska, and placed third in the New Housing Division in the US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon!
