About Me

I'm a permanent student both academically and of life. I went to university in Rome studying art history. I then returned to the US and went to law school. Following law school I returned to Italy to work as an international criminal law attorney working in human rights at an institute in Sicily followed by a masters in international human rights law at Oxford. After a year in Freiburg, Germany I'm now located in Belfast. I do consulting work in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen, and most recently Libya so I have some good stories to share! Throughout all of this I have traveled a lot and love meeting new people and new experiences. Presently I am in-house legal counsel for a University here in Doha.

PHILOSOPHY

When you want something all the world conspires to help you achieve it. - The Alchemist

CURRENT MISSION

I hope you'll remember, during those times of doubt and frustration, that there is nothing naive about your impulse to change the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm new to Doha but rather adventurous and love doing new things. I'm happy to host and explore with anyone....always up for the craic.

Interests

I love Saturday rugby and Sunday football, pub quiz, board games, Dr. Who and anything Aaron Sorkin. Show jumping and horses will always remain a passion.

I also still dream of being an astronaut and an international scrabble champion!

Chicago Cubs, Escape Devices, art history, AS Roma football, country music, traveling (there is nowhere I would not go), cooking, 'egregious conduct deemed offensive to commonly shared values of the world community', exploring new towns (nothing beats wandering the streets of the unknown), skiing, reading anything historical or architecturally based (I suppose that is the art history shining through) One thing that is often forgotten in fishing - whether fly or cast I do not do it enough. Timbersports - what's not to love?

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I will always be true to my country music roots - it is just good stories! Although thanks to Post and Erin I've been introduced to 'normal' music. That's what I listen to for fun - studying I'm always listening to symphonic orchestral(which apparently is fancy talk for 'movie soundtracks' - John Wiliams, John Horner, Javier Navarrette, etc.). Otherwise I'm pretty much just listening to Spanish, Greek, Italian, Arabic, Mongolian (yea, it's good) and Brazilian folk. Favorite Buffett Song? Love in a Library.

Movies - Green Street Hooligans, In Bruges, Six Shooter, Fletch, A Few Good Men, Real Genius, Indiana Jones(can never get enough), Primer, Fiorile, David Twohy (Chronicles of Riddick & Pitch Black), Caddyshack, Mallrats, Star Wars (all of them), The Lives of Others, Stardust, Amistad, This Old Cub, Dr. Zhivago, The Last of the Mohicans, Pride & Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park (pretty much anything based on a Jane Austen book), Night Watch, Day Watch, Lord of the Rings

Books - Hands down Pride & Prejudice. I am a huge fan of Mark Helprin and David McCullough - Becoming Justice Blackmun, Stay the Hand of Vengeance, Truth v. Justice, The Least Dangeous Branch and all those other non-required law books - Merchant of Death, Nobodies. Twelve Caesars, Iliad, Odyssey.
