Overview
About Me
I am a professional musician and music teacher (specializing in piano and voice). I love solo traveling!
I am a New Yorker - I keep a busy schedule and often play gigs and accompany theater at night. When I travel, I like to take a break from all that; though I enjoy an occasional party night, I'm more eager to spend time in nature lounging and reading, take long, leisurely walks around town, visit cultural landmarks and see theater and dance performances. I would love to meet new friends who are like-minded! I see myself as very open, friendly, and social, though I am also the kind of guest who can entertain myself and give you lots of space.
I am an amateur masters synchronized swimmer, and a vacation day is not quite complete for me without water. I will most likely be venturing toward beaches, pools, and lakes on my days out!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've heard this is a wonderful way for a solo traveler to really get connected and make friends in new places. I prefer adventures that are independent and off the beaten path.

Music, Movies, and Books
My musical tastes are broad. Some of my perennial favorites - off the top of my head, and in no particular order - are Prince, Bela Bartok, Janelle Monae, Ryuchi Sakamoto and YMO, Aram Khachaturian, David Bowie, Connie Converse, Moondog, Bjork, Bruce Springsteen...I'll stop, before this gets too long. As a professional performer and composer, I've played every genre from salsa to noise to classical to Broadway.
My taste in TV and movies runs pretty nerdy. I geek out hard about Game of Thrones, and rarely meet science fiction I don't like (I'm a bit of a trekkie, and a recent favorite is Black Mirror). I also love comedy - Key and Peele, Always Sunny, and The Golden Girls.
I love reading history, biography, and nonfiction - most recently, I've read Charles C. Mann's 1491, and Tony Ortega's The Unbreakable Miss Lovely. In terms of fiction, I've recently enjoyed Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam trilogy, Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower, and a big reread of Moby Dick.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I took up synchronized swimming at the age of 30. I'll be competing in my first national competition this year!
Teach, Learn, Share
I would be more than happy to exchange music lessons! I could also show you a few cool synchronized swimming tricks. I would absolutely love to work on my Spanish.
What I Can Share with Hosts
In addition to a possible music and swimming lesson exchange, I love pets and would be happy to spend time with yours. I'll admit I'm not much of a cook - I have celiac disease and deal with some dietary restrictions, but I'd love to pick up some fantastic chocolate and a bottle of wine to share. :)
