About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Museum and castle-hop across Europe!
ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in southeast Florida, aka suburbia. After I graduated high school, I went to Davidson College in the small town of Davidson, NC and studied biology. Despite my small town experiences, I really love big cities, museums and culture. This year, I'm living in Düsseldorf, Germany as a Fulbright grant recipient, researching diabetes at the Uni here and working hard to improve my German! Next year I'll begin my Ph.D. in biology at Harvard University in Boston.
PHILOSOPHY
In general, I try not to take myself or life too seriously. If you ask my friends about me, they'll tell you that I'm always the one dancing around like an idiot, singing and cracking jokes and just generally smiling. I put a lot of time and effort into my academic work, but I am careful not to let it define me. I am one of the those people who would drop everything to help a friend in need. I value honesty above almost everything else, because honesty allows us to live life as it really is.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have a decent-sized dorm room located near the center of Düsseldorf. I can't offer anything more than floor space...but it's certainly better than nothing!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Never couchsurfed before...but very excited to start!
Interests
Right now I am very focused on learning German and adapting to the culture. I read as much as I can in German, especially Krimis but also more serious plays and novellas. I also watch a good bit of German TV, especially Tatort. I am very interested in politics and try hard to keep up with the news. I love art and music.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: most chick flicks (i.e. Love Actually, The Holiday), Disney/Pixar (Aladdin, Finding Nemo, Up), satire (Thank You For Smoking), drama (Atonement, American Beauty), wacky/slapstick (Clue, Big Trouble)
Books: way too many to mention, but generally lots of German (classics and modern) mixed with lighter fare (i.e The Devil Wears Prada, Harry Potter)
Music: classic rock, 80s, dance
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Truly amazing: I spent four months traveling through Europe on a program studying classical art, history and archaeology! Such a unique and crazy experience!
Less serious: I once saw a guy open a beer bottle with a newspaper. Kind of life-changing.
Teach, Learn, Share
During my undergrad research, I taught E. coli how to do math. This is probably not interesting to anyone except for me and my advisor, but I can definitely chat about biology and other science topics. I am also fairly well versed in classical and Renaissance art.
