About Me

Hi, I’m Meiry, a 27-year-old who grew up in a traditional Malay family in a small village near Pontianak, famously known as Arang Limbung.

As a child, my parents encouraged me to focus on school, so I didn’t have much exposure to the world outside my village until I reached high school. It was then, through joining various communities, that my perspective began to broaden.

In 2016, at 19 years old, I took a leap of faith and went on my very first trip. This was my first true holiday because, in my family, traveling wasn’t part of our tradition. To make it happen, I worked part-time as a language tutor while juggling my studies. I planned the trip with some friends, and we explored Phuket and Kuala Lumpur together. The trip went smoothly and turned out to be incredible, sparking my love for traveling.

I then became passionate about finding ways to travel on a budget. That’s when I discovered Couchsurfing, though I didn’t fully understand how it worked until 2021. That year, I was hosted in Istanbul with a friend. It was a life-changing experience, seeing how people could open up their homes and share their world with others.

Since getting married and having a home of my own, I’ve started hosting travelers who need a place to stay. I’ve dedicated my home to travelers because I truly value the cultural exchange that happens during these encounters—it’s priceless.

I now live in West Kalimantan with my husband and our 1-year-old daughter. We love sharing our culture and supporting travelers during their stay here. So, I warmly invite you to stay with us, and I look forward to connecting with you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I believe in the power of cultural exchange and meaningful connections. My experience being hosted showed me how amazing it is to meet people who open their homes and share their stories with travelers from around the world.

Now that I have a home of my own, I want to give back by hosting others. It’s my way of creating a welcoming space for travelers and fostering cross-cultural understanding. For me, Couchsurfing is not just about finding a place to stay—it’s about building friendships, sharing experiences, and making every journey unforgettable.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I’ve ever done is giving birth. It was truly a life-changing and extraordinary journey for me. Experiencing the process of bringing a new life into the world is something I’ll always cherish—it’s both challenging and beautiful in ways I never imagined. It taught me so much about strength, love, and gratitude.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:
I can teach you Bahasa Indonesia and share some stories about the local history and culture of West Kalimantan. Whether you’re interested in learning the language, understanding traditions, or hearing about life in my hometown, I’d be happy to share my knowledge.

Learn:
I’m always open to learning about new cultures, languages, and experiences. If there’s something you’re passionate about or a skill you’d like to share, I’d love to learn from you!
