About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn everything I possibly can about everything I possibly can.

ABOUT ME

I'm an eternal optimist, and I really enjoy life. I'm getting sort of a late start on traveling, but I want to go everywhere and learn as much as I can in my short time here. I'm kind of shy, occasionally witty, hopefully funny, and try to be kind to everyone that I meet. I'm an avid reader. I enjoy absurdity. I'm political, and specifically would like to see Single Payer health care passed in the United States. I'm vegetarian, wish I was vegan, and after ten years, I still really miss bacon. I try to be as kind to the earth as possible, and enjoy local food and drink.More than anything, I want a life that's worth living.

PHILOSOPHY

Every emotion in the human spectrum is worth feeling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couch surfed once in New Zealand last year, but ended up settling in a hostel in Wellington. That experience was great, and I can't wait to do more! If I had more flexible roommates, I would love to have surfers...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just the once in Auckland. I've mainly crashed on couches of friends. I've had much more experience having people crash on mine, friends, friends of roommates, bands, etc. I also tend to find travelers in bars, and offer accommodation. I hosted a British girl for a week this summer.

Interests

Books, film, art, music, travel, adventure, enjoying the one life that has been given to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Chaplin, Keaton, Bergman, Billy Wilder, Truffaut, Tati, Hitchock, Burton, Jeunet, Scorcese, Aronofsky, Wes Anderson, Woody Allen, the screenplays of Charlie Kaufman, the list is too long...There's a long list of music also, but right now, I'm really loving Tame Impala, Best Coast, Surf City, The Dough Rollers, Elliott Smith, John Cale, Serge Gainsbourg, French For Rabbits, and Sonic Youth's Dirty. Recently read (and enjoyed): Salinger's short stories, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Poems of Keats and Bauedlaire, novels of E.M. Forster, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, all novels of Jane Austen. Currently reading: The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir and the plays of Shaw.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Florence. Hanging out with my Italian cousin. All of New Zealand, particularly; Wellington (it really is the coolest little capital on earth), watching the blue penguins come in and the rest of Oamaru, Lake Tekapo, and the Milford Sound.

Teach, Learn, Share

These are the things I'm learning about right now, and about which I might be able to teach someone: ASL. Some mediocre Italian, Spanish, French, and Welsh; how to pronouce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch; arbitrary knowledge of prominent European monarchs; a bit about chemical receptors in voles, and how it may or may not relate to a human's ability to pair bond; the artistry of tin mask shops post WWI. I can also play piano pretty badly, and I make a mean Pear Gruyere Pie.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand

Countries I’ve Lived In
