One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One December morning, at dawn, I'm sitting up high on the steps of a mayan pyramid in Tikal, Guatemala. The sky is clear but the sun has yet to rise, the jungle is silent. I'm staring strait ahead, the sky slowly turns pink and yellow and orange. Just then, a bird soars inches over my head, the women next to me jumps, it's the rare orange-breated falcon nesting on top of the pyramid. The sun rises, the jungles come to life.

Summer 2011. It's my day off as a naturalist in Tadoussac, Quebec. Therefore, I decided to join my friends from the recherche team studing the St-Lawrence beluga for a day trip. We are a big total of three on the small research boat. We venture in the waters of magnificient Saguenay fjord. After a very quiet start, we finally make some very nice beluga observations. The day draws to an end, we are heading back. The wildlife technicien calls for a minke whale at "11 o'clock"... I don't see it at first... but then bam! 5 meters to the left of the boat, It goes strait out of the water! This marvelous animal, two times the size of an elephant, as big as the boat we're in, breaches right next to us! We slow down to be careful, but we keep going... it breaches again, and again! This 8 tons whale is following the boat just like a dolphin! It's like it wants to race! I can't beleive it! I even see it's eye quite clearly, and it's looking at us! We are gaining ground, so I say simply: "Well, looks like we are winning." I'm waiting to see it pop out behind, MISTAKE! It goes out one final time, less then a meter from the boat!!! I swear it knew exactly what it was doing!

and well... I've got more to tell, but I guest it's all for now!
