Hi!

I’m Mélina, a French Canadian who has been living abroad for a while. I’m currently based in the historic center of Guatemala City.

I work for a local feminist newspaper, and I’m passionate about history, politics, and social justice.

Outside of work, I do my best to keep my mind sane by training for my first marathon! I’m really into running and anything outdoors. I don’t like routine, so I’m always up for an adventure or a new discovery. I love yoga, painting, reading, and I’m a big, big coffee drinker!

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

Even with all the atrocities in the world, I still have faith in humanity, and in alternative ways to connect and express empathy. Couchsurfing is one of those ways for me.

Being hosted has brought me many new friendships, stories, and adventures. As a host, I’ve had amazing conversations and cultural exchanges - and I love playing tour guide in the cities I lived in.

I’m all about authentic and equally shared relationships.

I am genuinely interested in human beings and the world around us. History fascinates me: I believe we should read and learn more in order to make wiser decisions for the future.

I’m passionate about feminist studies, politics, and social justice.

I love seeing people who are passionate and dedicated to what they do, whether it’s sculpture or birdwatching.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I don’t put too much value on “self-made” success, I believe I am built and constantly rebuilt thanks to all the women and people who came before me.

That said, I’ve run three half-marathons and I’m on my way to my first fulllllllll one (haha)!

I climbed Kilimanjaro (arguably one of the most questionable decisions ever),

attended a Vodou ceremony (also questionable),

and done so many other things… Lord.

I love languages! Happy to do language exchange in French, Spanish or English. I suck at sports but love them all, teach me a new one!

I love Guatemala in a profound way. The city isn’t usually a tourist favorite, but I hope I can show you a little piece of it. Although I’ll always be a gringa here (a foreigner), my goal is to make you love it as much as I do. :)
