I love the idea of experiencing any place with the help of a local, instead of staying at a cold, disconnected lodge or guest house. I think the reciprocal relationship between the host and guest is an important one that should be honoured and respected, so both parties can benefit from the experience.

Hiking through the Cordillera Blanca in Peru, and camping at the foot of snow-capped mountains was an experience I won't soon forget
