ABOUT ME

I am an American student studying abroad in Budapest for the semester. I study Mathematics and I am also an artist. Actually, mathematics is integral to my practice as an artist. I believe that mathematics itself is one of the purest art forms and I find all kinds of parallels between them.

I am spending my first time outside of the United States. So I am excited to see the rest of the world and to visit with people from various places.

I'm not a big drinker and I don't smoke. I don't go to parties much, but I when I do I like to have a lot of fun. I'm really into outdoor activities: running, hiking, etc. I enjoy checking out art galleries and historical sites. I LOVE trying new things (other than drugs). In the past few years I've tried crew, fencing, oil painting, bronze sculpting, classical guitar, sailing (which can actually be rather scary when the wind picks up)and martial arts. I've kept up with some of them, and the others weren't for me. I'm always open to new things.

PHILOSOPHY

For me, the charm of life is not utility or truth, but the value of human experience. The valuable things in life aren't the products of human activity, but rather the activities themselves.

I try to keep my life in perspective and stay reasonably positive. If today is going poorly, I just remember that this too shall pass. If I'm worried about the future, I remind myself that all I really have is today and I need to live one moment at a time.

A passage from the great writer Nabokov has really stuck with me and I think captures our existence: "Life is sad. Life is Beautiful. That is all you need to know."

I hope to meet new people and learn. People that come into our lives can teach us something or learn from us. I find it interesting to hear people's stories!
Hopefully someday soon I will purchase a couch (and a place to put said couch) and then I can host.

Interests

I really love music! I play the violin fairly well and I'm in the process of learning classical guitar. I also compose in my spare time to relax.

My favorite medium in studio art is charcoal. I consider myself a draughtswoman who happens to also paint. I have dallied in sculpting some and have even worked in a bronze foundry (super cool!).

I really like to cook. Working with new foods is a great challenge and reworking new ingredients into old recipes usually makes for delicious surprises.

Music, Movies, and Books

My music tastes are extremely eclectic. My iTunes library has everything from alternative hip hop to classical. I think that Mozart's Requiem Mass is the greatest piece of music ever composed by man.

I enjoy reading and I'm currently working my way through Grimm's Fairy Tales.

I'm also a movie junkie. I've recently seen and enjoyed Alice in Wonderland, Inception, Tangled, How to train your dragon, and the girl with the dragon tattoo.
