About Me

Well hello there! My name is Melissa. I was born in Denmark and lived there until my family and I moved to Torrance, Ca (near LA) when I was 8 years old. I am currently a senior undergraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley and I just wrapped up my semester abroad in Florence, Italy. I love trying new things and foods and experiencing new cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couch surfing seems like one of the most authentic ways to meet new people from new countries! I just finished a semester abroad in Florence and I stayed with an Italian host family. The host family experience was invaluable because I got to learn about the Italian culture from the inside and strengthen my Italian language skills so much more. I loved the host experience so much that I would love to continue my travels in this way, through couch surfing.
I am visiting some family in Malmö, Sweden for the rest of May so I am looking to plan a few short trips during this time.

Interests

I love capturing moments through photos and film. I am currently working on creating a little film about my experiences studying abroad. I also enjoy cooking and writing creatively from time to time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a big fan of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Game of Thrones. I'm into a lot of British music, my favorite band being Bombay Bicycle Club. I love a lot of mobster movies like The Goodfellas, The Departed, and Gangs of New York.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not to be corny, but...

I got on a plane, leaving a place of comfort and familiarity to go to a country for 4 months that is 10,000 kms away that I had never been to, didn't know much about, where the only word I knew was "ciao."

What I Can Share with Hosts

I hope I can make you laugh.
