About Me

I love to have new experiences. Those experiences take many forms especially when travelling. I love to meet new people and experience different cultures.
I lived in Switzerland during university for an internship and caught the travel bug; which I haven't been able to shake since. I completed graduate studies and have been working for several years in Calgary, Canada. I have decided it is time to travel again and am taking up the opportunity of a working holiday visa.
I take advantage of the opportunities that come my way and have been lucky to have had so many adventures. I can only hope more come my way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am about to embark on another life journey. A friend of mine has hosted people for years through couchsurfing and boasts about the people his family have gotten to meet. His experience inspired me to host some young people on their journey across Canada previously, where I was able to act as a local tour guide. These experiences have inspired me to join the couchsurfing community to search for hosts.

I have stayed in almost every type of accommodation from the traditional hotels, bed and breakfasts, and hostels to homes offered through accommodation rental. I figure couchsurfing is the next step in my accommodation adventure. I will be on working holiday, with unknown funding, so I am looking for ways to meet people along the journey and hopefully save a little money.

Music, Movies, and Books

How does one pick their favourite music, movie or book. I love variety in music, movies and books.
I've been to some amazing concerts from different genres but I think my favourites were BB King, Chris de Burg, and Eric Clapton. I may not know the steps but I love to dance.

There are a few authors that I've read more of their books than others but I really liked Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! As a kid, I read Charlotte's Web and Ender's Game repeatedly. I used to pride myself that I could read them each in a day. These days when I get away from technical reading, I find a books like the 100 year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared entertaining. I read the book and never got around to seeing the movie.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

How to pick just one? Some of the more interesting: I have witnessed election day in Belize. A very kind Mexican cooked me Italian in his home in Mexico City. I have taken a helicopter ride through British Columbia, Canada. I have seen the Chicago Cubs play at Wrigley field. I have hiked and white water rafted in some of the world's most beautiful mountains in Canada and Switzerland. I watched Easter parades in Spain. I completed a PhD.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you all you want to know about corrosion if not I'm a pretty good cook, know my far share of random trivia and travel tips. Otherwise I'm ready to learn about your life, culture and experiences. I love to converse and have been known to get more than my fair share of hugs from strangers.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I believe in leaving a place as good, if not better, than when I arrive. This has left me with a standing welcome from all the friends or family I have stayed with in. I have been fortunate to meet people while vacationing and then be welcomed into their homes. The experience of staying in someone home has innumerable benefits. People go from being strangers to friends.
