About Me
🙋🏼♀️ Hi, I’m Merci! I’m a teacher of Italian and Hungarian as foreign languages, a travel blogger, and a passionate Italy-lover. I currently live in Hungary, but I’ve spent many years living in different parts of Italy.
I teach Italian and Hungarian online as a freelancer, which gives me a lot of flexibility and allows me to travel extensively, since my work is location-independent. I studied languages at university in Budapest, Rome, and Florence. Learning about cultures and sharing them has always been an important part of my life.
For over 13 years I’ve been blogging about Italy, its cities, culture, language, and traditions – and I often give talks on these topics. I also hold a licensed tour guide certificate and give city tours in Budapest: Italian tourists can enjoy professional guided tours, and Hungarian visitors can join Italian-Hungarian themed walks in Hungarian. One day I hope to guide tours in Italy as well!
I love teaching and learning languages, traveling, taking beautiful photos, and meeting new people. I enjoy cycling, hiking, long walks, trying delicious food, and watching sunsets by the sea. My newest passion is figure skating – two years ago, I decided to make my childhood dream come true and started taking lessons.
If you come to Budapest, I can show you the city like a local tour guide – and make sure you have a fun and memorable experience.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I travel alone a, I often find it hard to truly experience a culture. For me, it’s important not just to scratch the surface, but to fully immerse myself in everyday life from a local perspective. I’ve spent time as an au pair in Italy several times, and that’s when I really got to know the country, living with locals helped me connect with the culture on a deeper level.
I decided to start using Couchsurfing because I want to create lasting memories with people, build friendships, and establish meaningful exchange connections. Even if someone can’t accompany me on a trip, it would be wonderful to have company to share exciting activities, explore the city together, and discover it more deeply.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I made fresh pasta with an elderly lady in a hidden little village in the Italian countryside, and I climbed one of Italy’s most active volcanoes. I have taught around 100 people to speak Italian and have given over 3,000 Italian lessons in recent years.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can also take you on a guided tour around Budapest, showing the city’s hidden gems, best restaurants, and cozy cafés. As a language teacher and someone experienced in moving between cultures, I know what can be particularly interesting for a foreigner to discover about my country.
